Is there a simple way to put a ring tone on an iPhone 4
I am sure this has been answered before but I have been unable to find a method that works for me. I have the iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1 and iTunes 10.x.x. I have been trying for over forty hours (on and off for several days) to install a custom ring tone. Just can't seem to put it together, either due a different version or a missing step, or just possibly an old fart that does not savvy techy stuff.
If you can tell me an easy way or point me to the thread that uses my specific versions I would be greatful.
Starting to like my old android as I could do this stuff with ease.
http://itools.hk/cms/webpage12.htm - Once in iTools 2012 choose media(under library)>choose ringtone>choose make ringtone>then select import to device.
This can be done within iTunes. Copy and paste the ringtone file on your computer to the Tones Folder of the iTunes Library within iTunes. Ringtones with the correct extension can be added by clicking on them.
Zedge lets you download tones already in the correct format for your iDevice. Download the .m4r file from Zedge, drop it in iTunes, and sync. They have an Android app but, unfortunately, not an iOS app.
That app looks really sweet and it's free! I might just get that, though I usually just use GarageBand to create any ringtone I want. It came free with my MacBook Pro. I have never paid for a ringtone in my life on any phone I have had and always used my own custom ones. Then again, most of my custom ringtones are at least close to 10 years old and already cut down, so all I really needed to do is convert the file format to whatever the phone uses.

Yes, you are correct. It is fairly easy with iTunes too.
Iringer is the easiest program to use and it automatically imports the ringtone into iTunes for you

Android Sucks, ios is better
What I do is this, select the song and press CMD+I, this pops up the info window. Then, I select the options tab and set the 'start time' and 'stop time' and see to it that the total time doesn't exceed 40 seconds. I save it and select 'Create ACC Version' under 'advanced' menu'. The ACC version of the track will be listed below the original track. Now, dragging and dropping the track on to the desktop (or any other folder) will display the extension as .m4a. Changing the extension to .m4r converts the clip into a ringtone. Double clicking the file automatically adds it to iTunes under 'Ringtones' and it can be synced.

This is what I use for my existing ringtones. I had a bunch of .mp3 ringtones from various older phones over the years and in fact use a few Dolce and Gabbana Razr ringtones as my text and voicemail sound effects on numerous phones and this is exactly the method I used to convert those .mp3 files to an iphone compatible format.
