Thumbs up New PCS Refarm Location: 1900MHz 3G/4G is now available in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA!

A rep told me that 1900MHz is now available in my area! I will be going to a T-Mobile store tomorrow to do a band check on a Samsung phone to confirm it.

Are there any other confirmed/semi-confirmed locations?

Phones: HTC Sensation 4G (unlocked), iPhone 5 (PCS 3G only US Unlocked, A1428), LG 260 (Rumor 1)
Providers: T-Mobile (post-paid), Blue Wireless (prepaid CDMA)

I currently have an HTC Sensation 4G. It claims to support 1900 3G. Samsung phones have a built-in band check if you dial *#0011#*. Apparently my phone can't do that check, so I have to go to a T-Mobile store to check it. I also know some people who have unlocked iPhones. I'll have to ask if they are on 3G or not.

If your phone "DOES" have this capability you would probably notice having better signal where you normally use it. As Kie said they mislabeled it on their website, they did the same thing on the Mytouch 4G slide which is the phone I currently have.

Yeah it might be a mislabel. The phone's box claims UMTS 1700/2100/1900. Though my EDGE signal has slightly deteriorated and T-Mobile does have quad band EDGE in my area. When trying to switch bands on a quad band Motorola phone, I am able to get signal on both 850/1900 and 900/1800 in my area.

Have you been to a T-Mobile store to check on the GS3 or GS2?

No. Not yet. I am hoping to go today though. I will hopefully come back with good results though. Scranton-WB seems like a logical place to refarm because it is close to other already refarmed areas in PA and it is a city where many people already have AT&T phones that could be used on the refarmed network.

I do have a question, did you call into 611? If you did what did you ask for in the directory? Or what specific type of person was it, technical support, retentions, Etc?

I did a live chat with a CS rep. I am on my way to test the network now.

Here are the results. Band 4 as in 1700MHz. Too bad.

Edit: This was not directly in Scranton-WB. This was in Dickson City so it is possible the GS3 was connecting to an unrefarmed tower. T-Mobile is opening up a company store directly downtown in Scranton so once that is open I will test it again once the store opens.

you should have changed it to PCS 1900MHz only, as it would operate on AWS by default.

This is very true. And if that t-mobile store has any type of microcell in it or repeater, it will just about always get that signal first, since it will be stronger.

How would I go about forcing it to 1900MHz PCS only? I was a bit limited with what I could do in-store because they were closing very soon after I left. Like I said before, a new company store is going up downtown so I will have easier access to a test phone.
