In the end I'm opting to stay. I basically took a long look at all my pre-paid options on the small carriers and also big carriers, looked at T-mo Value Plan, and AT&T. Sprint isn't even an option for me and wouldn't consider them. When I am done dropping off my extra lines that I don't need, from a standpoint of just having 2 smartphones and 2gb data, would be $128 a month with corp discount. Straight talk would be $90 for the same thing, Page Plus would be $110, T-mo value plan would be $80. When taking into consideration the network and reliability, plus the costs of switching carriers and getting new phones. It just doesn't make sense. I will probably end up with 2 smartphones and my iPad 3 on the account for $138 which isn't bad at all. And when I move to a LTE handset then I can just drop the iPad since hotspot is included.

I would go with AT&T in a heartbeat but really they will probably mirror VZW or be so close that it's not worth switching. Been with em since they were PrimeCo, and even testing other waters briefly, I always stayed with VZW.

Staying for now. Use less than 1GB on two smartphones, so keeping unlimited data is not worth giving up $900 in subsidies every 20 months. However, 2 daughters and son are getting screwed by VZW on their family plans b/c they have 1 smartphone and 3 feature phones. Think that those 3 families will quit VZW at contract end, unless VZW realizes their mistake and offers better plans for those with multiple feature phones.

I am waiting until the new iPhone comes out until I decide what I am going to do. I am month-to-month at the moment and will see what everyone has to offer at that time before I decide what I am going to do.

staying for now but if they start to throttle I will leave in a heartbeat . I am a data hog and these new plans are a joke and I am shocked that they save anyone money . I have unlimited datashare data already by just taking my simcard out and using it in any 4G device

You are shocked they save anyone money? Have you considered the fact that people outside of these forums use a bit less data than many of us? Have you considered that for years, consumers have asked about the possibility of having a smartphone on VZW without paying a mandatory data plan? Now that mandatory data can be had for a lot less.

Imagine a 1400 min, unl text, 4 line plan with 2 smartphones, 2 basic. Total cost used to be a minimum of 200 plus tax/fees. Now they could have that for a minimum of 190 plus taxes and fees. They could convert to 4 smartphones, and receive huge subsidies on all 4 lines for a minimum of 210. Before, the minimum would have been 260, or even 240 if they switch to 700 min. Some people can get away with using wifi alot, and minimal cellular data. Many people haven't converted to smartphones because of the $30/min add on in the past.

I realize the plans are not great for BRAND NEW single line customers, as well as heavy data users who do not have much access to Wifi. But to many people/families, the new plans are great.

I'm mostly replying to the first part of your post. You are now required to pony up for data first, before you add any device to your plan. So at $50 for only 1gb and then $40 to add your smartphone that's still ponying up A LOT for data.

Also, you are very right that these prices are terrible for new single people. Ramming unlimited voice and text at consumers is stupid.

I'll continue to stay with them forever most likely. I have no issue with paying 600-700 for a new device when I'm usually paying 250-300 anyway. Plus you cannot beat the network coverage and consistently fast data speeds. For the premium service you pay the premium price. Cellphones are not a requirement like our government seems to think. They are a luxury item just like a blender and toaster.

I can see Fran Shamo bank account getting bigger with people wanting to pay these ridiculous high prices Verizon is charging now.

My wife's hours have been cut a little so we may have to cut fios and find a cheaper alternative. I like it but it breaks the bank when you want to cut back.

I'm staying. After eleven + years at Nextel - Sprint/Nextel I find that I really like having usable coverage nearly everywhere.

Staying because I managed to get my Galaxy S3 ordered and stay grandfathered, also staying because they do have the best coverage. I've been on Sprint, I've been on At&t, and I know what I'd lose. Even if I do move to share anything plan and my costs go up $30-$50 a month, it won't change anything as I like having consistent cellular service and data speeds.
