Question Trying to do HUP and maintaining my credits...to no avail so far =(

With the new arrival of the S3, I was intrigued by calling in to Rogers to see if I can do a HUP, something I've done in the past whenever a phone comes out that intrigues me. Thought it would be an easy convo to re-up my contract by 3 years and get the phone. I know I have some leverage since I'm willing to renew my contract with 1 year to go.

Getting offered the HUP is not a problem since I haven't had a new device with Rogers since 2009 but after several calls to retention, they seem to have no leeway to extend all my credits starting today for 3 years.
As someone that hasn't been actively involved in the Forums (only check in during one of these upgrade/retention periods), has time changed where Rogers is now hard to extend credits on new renewals (when a contract is still active)?

Without the credits carrying over, I am now not going to do the HUP and will have to wait till the contract is over before I think i have leverage to extend the credits.

    Any insight would be great!

Last month when I called to do a Early HUP, been told, I have to wait until my recent Credit about to expire, which still have a yr. I don'tthink it was true, but that was what I 've been told. He said, He could add more credit, like I got a ata credit. But he can't renew the recent one, until it is expired.

If you read the retentions threads you will see its a DEAD alley now. Nothing like before, as they are trying to bleed off any retention plans.

Just ask what your cancellation fees are, as your old policy( remind them they try an dtact on new plocies but you contract only has 1 year left-so not renewed or changes. ) and shop around as telus/bell rates are better than renewals at this time, unless you need Rogers.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the insight. I did inquire bout cancellation ($25/month left on contract) so definitely will be looking at other companies to see if there are better deals. Any in mind?

I called customer relations yesterday, asked if I resigned for another 3 years will they be willing to extend my credits and they said ride your contract until the end to re-negotiate your next contract.

I've seen this happen two years ago w/ one CSR, but it's pretty much standard with all CSRs now.

In one of the retention threads, mypatpat also scored a deal with the Super 6GB Plan + $7 CID/VM, $15 credit and a HUP

I'm glad to hear ppl are getting treated nicely, proper credits and good experiences.

i had like $25 worth of credits and my plan expired about 2 months ago and i didn't notice till the 2nd bill afterwards why i'm paying so much more

so i called Robbers.. after like 4-5 tiems talking to Retention.. they aggreed to renew ALL my credits if i renew for 3 years... which was fine with me.. if my plan and credits stay the same...

however, it took alot of effort to do that though.. I just told htem.. there are WAY better choices now, but i've decided to stay with Robbers since i don't need to do anything.. and i don't need a new hardware.. i jsut want my credits and i'll deal with my own hardware.. and tehy agreed to give me back all my credits.. but this was after 4-5 times calling them though..
otherwise it was pretty styandard.. they tried to change me to ar egular plan or tell me the credits can't be renewed anymore.
