my wallet strange problem: roaming fees on nokia E73

I have got my mom a nokia E73. She is on a voice-only plan (no data).

She was a happy camper for a few weeks, until I have put $10 into her wallet for long distance. Then, she went to a roaming area for a few hours. And, bam, $10 is gone. GPRS roaming fees. Obviously she didn't use data, the phone itself went to check for updates or whetever.

    Hence, a few questions:

    1) how much is data in home zone and in roaming zone?
    2) how to disable mobile data completely on E73 (wifi only?)
    3) is there any use in calling mobilicity trying to get these $10 back?

Please chime in with your experience. Thanks!

    1) too much, info is on their site
    2) don't have my s60v3 phone on me, if nobody else answers by the time I get to it, I'll figure out how to do it and post how
    3) highly unlikely, but it's worth a shot

The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

    1) $1.50 / mb
    2) ?
    3) If the phone is somehow configured to not use roaming data, then I would call in and tell them this. They have reversed charges like this before. But you need to figure out if you did what was necessary so it wasn't supposed to use data while roaming

Simple. Just edit the internet APN's so they are not functional.

Menu / Control Panel / Settings / Connection / Destinations

You'll see a list of Destinations. Open any that show 'access point'. There are 3 'packet data' bearers for Mobi - MoWAP, MoMMS, MoEmail. Open any of these you find, scroll down to the 'Access point name', eg. wap.davewireless.com, and insert a '0' in front of the APN value. Repeat for each Destination that shows 'access point'.

This willl disable the APN's. You can test by pressing and holding '0' from the home screen to bring up the browser, when you choose 'Internet / MoWAP' for a connection, you'll get the message 'Connection not available'.

When you want the phone to be able to access the internet again, just go back in and remove the 0's.

This will not affect the phone's ability to make WiFi connections.
In the AWS/cellular context, TAFL is Industry Canada's list of all base stations in operation, as submitted by the spectrum licensee the month prior.

The underlying database is Industry Canada's Assignment and Licensing System (ALS)
A subset of the ALS is published monthly as the Technical and Administrative Frequency Lists (TAFL)
Real-time access to the AWS/cellular data of ALS is provided by Spectrum Direct's (SD) Geographical Area Search
