Question about Porting

I am going to get the Monthly 4G $30 plan. I don't want to discontinue my current contract carrier for about a month after I get the TMobile plan. Can I wait a month before I port my current number from Sprint to TMobile and use the TMobile phone with the number they assign for that first month?

I would not think that this is a problem but there is a discussion on the Straight Talk forum saying that a new SIM card would be needed if you don't port your number immediately. I know we are talking two different carriers but this concerns me that TMobile might be the same way.

Thank you for your reply. This is good news. It seems it is just the opposite with ST. One more reason I am liking TMobile more and more!
