I purchased my iPhone from VM late Thursday with the free overnight shipping, which according to the fine print, meant it was supposed to arrive at the latest on Saturday. Turns out it's coming Monday. Pretty disappointed. Will post my experience when I do get it, though!

Nice! some sanity returns to this thread.

Let's all try and stay on topic.

Well, I bought one Friday at Radio Shack. Radio Shack forgot/didn't know how to load the 45 for airtime onto the account, so they sent me out the door with a non-functional phone, and said "We think it will start working in an hour or two". Jerks.
After calling Virgin and having them explain there is no credit on the account, and the phone won't activate until I put airtime on the account. I then gave them the airtime purchase serial number and the phone would activate.

So, the phone now works, but will only show GPRS services all over San Diego, it shows the 3G symbol in some places for a second, but speedtest.net always shows .110Mbps at best.

It has been a sucky experience at best.

I think I will be returning the phone soon.

$650 for an iPhone stuck at 110Kbps, I think not!

Radio Shack is great for doing crap like that. They sent me out the door with an Evo that was completely non-fuctional as well. I finally got it working after reading the manual at home. Their sales people act like big know-it-alls, but once you watch them try to do something technical, it's pretty apparent they're mostly talk.

The Virgin Mobile iPhone's value will be more a matter of location (i.e. where Sprint has decent data) than anything else. There's no way I'd pay $650 for a phone operating under the network conditions you're describing.

I have been using the Virgin Mobile phone for almost a month now. There are no obvious problems, but I did discover that you cannot call or text to 225 to get your minutes balance. you can get it by dialing 611, however.
The VM service person I spoke with about this did not instantly know the answer to my question about this, but she did hang in there and get it for me. I appreciate that. I have the 4S.

I bought my phone at Best Buy. I got an Open Box special. When the guy went to set it up for me, it did not work, so I wound up getting a new phone for the Open Box price. I was happy about that.

I have had no problems with reception, either.

By definition, it's when Best Buy re-shelves something that has already been open without even trying to refurbish the packaging. Given Best Buy's shady marketing it's probably a lousy idea to ever own one of these devices, although... see the post above, the open box iPhone was broken. It's the equivalent to going on Craigslist and typing "broken iphone", although the Craigslist deals tend to be less expensive.

Moving on. I don't know what the Open Box Price is. It could vary by store, but I'm guessing they'll shave a brilliant $100 off the generously low price that's already provided.

You can also find out yourself by
    1. Purchasing an iPhone
    2. (damaging and then) returning it
    3. waiting for it to appear on a shelf as an open-box special

Srsly tho napy, what's your price range?
