From Merchant's info page (sparse) it seems they are claiming on behalf of all customers that paid the SAF, though some news outlets imply it is for customers that were misled to believe it was a government fee. Not sure if it also covers fees paid since the 2006 filing nor if it also includes functionally equivalent fees like the GRRF.
The lawyers will accept and throw everyone into the class pot as much as they can stretch the definition of the class. Then the judge will decide. I do believe the only winning argument is going to be based upon the SAF misrepresentation as a gov't imposed fee as the basis of claim is "unjust enrichment", which would seemingly have to rely on some $ going to the telco's that was presumed by customers to be a flow-through fee. I assume some evidence is going to be presented that CSR's continued to tell customers that it was a gov't fee even after the small-print disclaimers were added and after the CRTC orders related to the SAF.

    OK. I'm confused...

I'm on my year 2 of a 3 year contract and my $6.95 SAF credit has expired. Based on this new ruling, what does that mean for me?

Will I continue to pay a $6.95 SAF, or will this be dropped and my current monthly rate plan increase by $2-$3?

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Cheers!

^This has nothing to do with you whatsoever; unless you change your plan to a new plan.

I was able to get the GRRF credited on all of my wireless products without changing my plans by calling in and speaking with Customer Relations. I am not sure if Customer Care has the same abilities for those that are not looking to cancel but it's worth asking. It might be due to the SAF lawsuit, or due to the increased competition.

I'm pretty sure this was addressed in the original post, but thanks for clarifying.
