Apple wields its ban hammer: Galaxy Nexus now banned for sale in the US

Earlier this week Samsung was forced to stop selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US. Now they're not allowed to sell the Galaxy Nexus because it infringes on Apple's patent regarding universal search.

Apple reminds me of two kids at the beach, Apple the kid comes along and builds a cool sand castle, the other kid, Google comes along, improves upon the design and builds a much cooler sand castle. To make a long story short, Apple kid throws a fit like a baby, says not fair, not fair, and destroys everybody's sand castle. Apple=SPOILED BRAT!

Google: I like your sand castle and even if I do allegedly improve on it I still want to 100% use yours as the foundation for mine.

unfortunately, the law disagrees with this brilliant plan. only criminals refuse to acknowledge the law.

Based on a broken patent system that gives patents for technologies that have existed previously. This is ridiculous.

I agree. Apple, Samsung, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, HTC, etc. are accumulating patents to both defend themselves and attack competitors. Patents are often granted for routine engineering or techniques which are well known or just obvious. It is all part of the corporate game - keeps the lawyers employed.

The patent system was designed for and worked well in a different era, an era before software. I can't really blame Apple. Everyone is playing this game. Samsung is also suing Apple on multiple fronts in multiple countries. Apple just won a round in the absurd never ending battle.

Wouldn't it be great if companies just concentrated on making the best product possible and marketing it well?

Crazy how this whole thing works.... As a supplier for Apple Samsung generates about 8 percent of its revenues. My friend is my enemy. Just part of the game... They're crunching roi on what the legal expenses are. Would be nice if some intelligent Judges establish some very liberal fair use case law as precedent, so that these things happen less frequently and the money is thrown at innovation/improvement. Didn't Jobs totally rip off the Xerox's technology at Menlo Park? He was an Aesthete who understood consumers, not a technology innovator. He also said something along the lines of; to paraphrase something he said in "Pirates of Silicone Valley", Great Entrepreneurs don't really innovate... They Steal... A corporation's primary function is it's fiduciary responsibility to make money for its shareholders (at least in theory). Make the lawsuit incentive go away and we have a much more constructive playing field.

Exactly. All these companies talk about innovation, yet they do little if at all.

Let's say Apple manages to prove in court that Samsung violated Apples patents
and the court block all Galaxy Nexus sales in this country forever....

Are we as the consumer entitle to compensation from Samsung because they
sold us patent-infringing products? I should probably talk to some lawyers
who specialize in class action suits. Those lawyers can use some extra money
for a new vacation home or yacht.(and a couple of $5 coupons for me if they
    win)

If that were true in this case, all Samsung's lawyers had to do was show proof of prior art to have the patent invalidated. If that is true, then Samsung's lawyers were negligent.

Google should just countersuit with the all new all amazing all apple notification drop down bar. Funny, I saw that three years ago on some other device I used to own, oh yeah, my HTC hero. Back when it was kicking the iPhone 3gs ***.
