MS and apple are 2 of thee biggest abusers of the patent system on the planet
They had a mouse that instead of a button used an 8-way click wheel, so you had scrolling and 8 configurable buttons (effectively). They decided to release the Mighty Mouse instead, but yeah, they do occasionally come up with something new.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

If the patent system was fair and for competition then Android phones would be the cheapest on the market. Apple has no interest in collecting license fees from Android due to the fact Steve Jobs wanted it to die. Microsoft on the other hand used its patents to scare the Android AND linux communities even tho they have WP7 they really do not need to compete with it.

Microsoft alone makes $5-10 per android phone so they are laughing at this time. The USPTO needs a much needed reform but due to high cost lobbyists you'll never see it.

The whole patent system has been raped by those Companies, not just the FRUIT, Microsoft, HTC, Google, Samsung. SUeing each other like a game to play.
Patent system is suppose to encourage creativity, but now just feces those bigees throw at each other, but ended to customers'.

Apple's "slide to unlock" patent ruled invalid in UK

Interestingly, Apple may have been caught copying another company in the "slide to unlock" fiasco. The judge said that HTC would've been violating Apple's patent if not for the fact that a previous phone, the Neonode N1, released in 2004, had a similar feature only without a graphical representation. The ruling stated that adding visual feedback would be an "obvious" improvement and thus the patent could not stand. It's unclear whether Neonode actually patented the "slide to unlock" in their phone.

Apple did not comment on the ruling but came back to their standard statement, one that is humorous given the judge's note regarding the company copying the Neonode N1: "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."

These are the rules of the game. So industry stakeholders will continue their legal battles.

The difference is Apple is sitting on a massive cash reserve.

Apple will do whatever it wants, and the industry will follow.

    Success...
