How is AT&T in Long Island NY?

    Hello...

Looking for feed back about the service... I drive from Sayville,Oakdale, Islip, Huntington, Northport. I signed with Verizon but I can still cancel, all their changes are making me think it twice.. all I need is unlimited mobile to mobile which At&t offers for $30.. 3gb of data is more than enough for my wife, Ill run close, but maybe I can buy a line with unlimited data later on. Anyways, Ill appreciate your advice.

From my experience with AT&T in NYC/Nassau was spotty. it's been a while so they could have improved, but if it's the same as it was a year ago Verizon is much better for that whole area.

Sounds like he is talking about long island not NYC so in city references aren't exactly accurate for that.

Would suggest getting an inexpensive prepaid GSM/3G phone on AT&T GoPhone, or AT&T resellers such as H20, RedPocket, Jolt, certain but not all TracFones, etc. Put it on a pay-as-you-go plan, not a recurring monthly plan to test the waters. If you like the coverage and quality of service, switch to an AT&T postpaid plan on a nice phone. If it doesn't work for you, stick with what you have.

I wouldn't give up your 27% with Sprint.

When I switched from Sprint to ATT last October my coverage in the North Shore greatly improved. I mostly use my phone from Great Neck to Glen Cove to parts of the South Shore and I must say coverage isn't to bad. I get a dropped call here and there but its a big improvement from Sprint. I never tried Verizon so I can't say how they will work. I advise using ATT during their grace period with a new number and port your number once you decide if you want to go with them. If its not to your liking just cancel the contract, and return the equipment.

You NEED LTE for when you go to the city. HSPA+ is a mess there. I'd go Verizon in that area, but AT&T with LTE should be decent.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

We were in Manhattan couple weeks ago. My iPhone 4S performed better than I thought it would.

Might be that extra HSPA carrier they turned GSM down for.

^^ Which is why it's not a good idea to go testing AT&T with a GSM-only prepaid phone in NYC and the surrounding area. It won't be an accurate indicator of performance. At the very least, you should be checking with a 3G handset.

I'm shocked. Last time I was there I was going between 150kbps and no data service. I'd be happy with a rock solid 500kbps and calls that go through within a few seconds...
