Smile Question about Arabic font in keitai

    Hi
I'm planing to get my first keitai ever but I need to know if japanese mobile phones can read SMS in Arabic letters?
I think it has something to do with the fonts supported in these mobiles.
So, can I read (only read not write) Arabic letters in japanese phones?

I'm having my eyes on "sharp SH-11c"

    Thank you

I don't think Japanese keitais have Arabic font.

Nope sadly. You will see 'dots' when you receive text in Arabic. And you can't install fonts.

Its true what my friend fara7 said. i live in the gulf and i get my arabic sms like squares but that is only for the traditional keitais, i am using P-01D With series and it displays arabic but in mofakfak form which is still readable better than nothing and some arabic sites on docomo smartphone u must read it from left and not right because Japanese phone flip the reading side. hope this helps!

Just out of curiosity what phone will u get ?

Note: The SH-11C is 3G only. Hope you have that in mind.

I know how it feels though don't let this break your dream yet D: I mean, one thing about Japanese phones (traditional) is sacrificing some features to another features. Which I am sure many of us went through here.

Now, if you really, really need the the ability to READ Arabic and acquire a flip phone at the same time then there is one choice. It is like ae10wnu said, Japanese smartphones show Arabic in mufakak form. So you can check out the SoftBank android flip phone 007SH. But this one needs a hypersim. Though it has been mentioned on the forum that someone in Russia found a way to software unlock it. You can check recent threads for this matter.

Or you can use 2 phones at once xD SH-11C for the main use and another one for when you need to receive Arabic text

    Good luck!

@SouthEastKen, you can not even install software to keitais unless you're using imode which needs you to be in Japan.
