There are specific basebands mentioned in the gevey websites that are unlock-able. That's why I want to know..

Also, this will be my first tread back in to the iphone unlock since the early iphone 2g, I am still a bit iffy about gevey. What if in the future, when I upgraded to iOS 6, will it still work?

just got off the phone with VM, an almost complete waste of time.

What they told me, is that VM does not support unlock or jailbreak, better luck in trying to get it from Apple instead....

Has anyone successfully unlocked a VM iPhone 4s?

As titled, got my gevey sim, but couldn't get it to work all day. Here's what I did, chime in if I did anything wrong..

    1. plug in the reset sim
    2. select network "others"
    3. network MNC code for VM is 3100530
    4. Install furiousmod
    5. register the gevey sim
    6. reboot

and then this is where it get stuck... showing phone not activated, and sim card not support (T-Mobile)

    anyone?

I take it you've verified the baseband is compatible?

has anyone have luck unlocking the sim yet? I would like to get the iphone from VM but if the sim won't work for international use it's not worth the price.

I will just have to buy a used one from ebay and unlock it for tmobile or buy it new unlocked one from the apple store.

does anyone know if best buy sells unlocked iphones?

    thanks

I am returning the VM iPhone back to bestbuy. That piece of ***** cost me 700 after tax, and can't even be unlocked. You have made a terrible business decision VM.

Apple sells "unlocked" iPhones, although that's a relative term considering how locked-down it is to begin with. I was wondering all through here why it wouldn't just be advantageous to go to AT&T or T-Mobile with the same request, or look for, I don't know, an Android world phone like the Galaxy Nexus for ~$200 less

I emailed VM today. They are still saying that the iPhone 4S SIM is locked and will not work internationally.
Oh well, it's definitely a no-go for me.

According to VM's own support site, if you call VM and ask them for instructions to unlock the iPhone, they'll do it for free:

How do I unlock my Apple iPhone?

We are only able to unlock an Apple iPhone purchased through Virgin Mobile.

    What's the Procedure?

When we get your request we forward it to Apple to unlock your iPhone.
This should be processed within 3 working days.
You will be advised by SMS or email of a successful unlock.
You will then need to perform a Full Restore of your iPhone with the latest version of iTunes.
Once the phone has been restored, you can insert the new carrier SIM card and Sync it with iTunes.

NOTE: Authorised Apple Carriers push the APN settings through iTunes so there would be no requirement to manually enter this information.

Since I'm new, the forum won't let me post links, so you'll have to google Virgin's support site for this. I found the link directly from Google.

VM has recently overhauled their entire site and updated the support information. Apparently, they also made some strategic decisions regarding unlocking of the iPhone, and they seem to be correct ones.

Well, flyhen, you apparently made a rash decision; you could have unlocked that iPhone after all, without any jailbreaking or other issues.

You may want to check which Virgin Mobile site you were on; the spelling of the word "authorised" indicates it was probably not VMUSA. Other countries' Virgin Mobiles are not affiliated with the one in the USA and have completely different programs and policies.

VMUSA has so far maintained (primarily through Social Media reps) that they will not unlock their iPhones.

Looks like that's off of Virgin Mobile Australia's site. http://virginmobile.custhelp.com/app...r-apple-iphone

By now, someone must have tried to put a SIM card in a VM iPhone and see if it works on a GSM network. Any results?
