both GV alias and handset number appear in incoming texts

Has this always been the case and am I now just seeing it? Normally when I receive a text on my handset, the Google Voice alias number appears, and of course that is the number I have to text back to from my handset if I want to use my GV number. But today I noticed that for incoming text messages, the alias number appears, and below that the actual number of the sending handset appears with a + in front of it. It looks like this on my display:

    xxx-xxx-xxxx [GV alias number]
+1xxxxxxxxxx- [actual number of the handset]
    [message]

I normally send and receive text messages using my GV number from the computer instead of my phone, so maybe this has always been the case and I just never noticed it. I have a dumbphone so I don't use the GV app.

This is normal, but in my experience it'll show up slightly differently on different phones and/or carriers. For instance, the GV alias might show up just in the text notification area, then when you click to open the message that info won't be available. On two different phones on PPC I've seen it displayed differently. My T-Mobile phone shows it in the message header. Point being, it's in there somewhere!

Notice also that GV-forwarded texts, viewed via your e-mail on computer, show an e-mail to text alias (a really long e-mail address containing your number, the return destination number, and a bunch of other stuff). If you save this address you can use it to "spoof" your GV number whenever you want to text someone from any e-mail account. Not real useful, but good to know about. I suspect you already do!
