WIND Mobile Expendables 2 Sweepstakes Contest: Win a Huawei Ascend P1

Huawei Canada, WIND Mobile and Alliance Films Announce the “WIND Mobile Expendables 2 Sweepstakes” Contest

Winner will receive a Huawei Ascend P1 device and trip for two to Los Angeles for the Hollywood premiere of the summer blockbuster The Expendables 2

Markham, Ontario, July 4, 2012: Huawei Canada, in partnership with WIND Mobile and Alliance Films, announced today the kick-off of the “WIND Mobile Expendables 2 Sweepstakes” contest, where one lucky Canadian and a guest will be flown to Los Angeles for the Hollywood premiere of the biggest action movie of the summer, The Expendables 2. The winning contestant will also receive the highly anticipated Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone, set to launch in Canada this summer and two free months of WIND Mobile service providing unlimited Canada-wide talk, text and data.

“We’re excited to partner with WIND Mobile and Alliance Films to offer one lucky Canadian the chance to attend the Hollywood premiere of The Expendables 2 in Los Angeles and be one of the first people in the country to own the Ascend P1,” said Alane Zhang, General Manager of Huawei Device Canada. “We’re looking forward to making the device available here in Canada in the near future and with it, the benefits of a richer mobile experience for Canadian mobile customers. It’s truly a remarkable smartphone, one that we’re very proud of.”

At 7.69 mm, the Huawei Ascend P1 is one of the thinnest smartphones in the market today. Running Android 4.0, its super AMOLED screen, 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound System, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 4.3 inch screen provides users with a theatre-like experience when they watch videos on their phone.

The winner and one guest will receive roundtrip airfare for two to Los Angeles, California from anywhere in Canada on August 2nd, a two-night stay in a four star hotel and two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of The Expendables 2 on the evening of August 3rd.

I don't either and I can find any mention of this contest anywhere else. I do notice the text above says the contest begins July 9th so maybe it's not up yet.

All I have to say is - finally! Why is it that, with their cozy relationship with Huawei, it's taken this long to get a device out of them that isn't a disposable piece of junk? Huawei does make some good hardware, it just hasn't ever seen the light of day in Canada.

Huawei is actually pretty good (compared to other manufacturers) at updating their phones, so I'm guessing it'll see JB pretty soon after its release.

Does anyone know which processor the phone uses?

Yeah, they released an Alpha build of ICS before anyone else.

The phone uses the Galaxy Nexus' OMAP 4460 (correct numbers or not it's the Galaxy Nexus AP).

I don't care how good the prize is, I won't be taking part in it. I don't have now, & never will have, a FB account. As big as FB is, the vast majority of people don't have a membership and I refuse to set one up just to take part in a marketing campaign.

    3. HOW TO ENTER There are two ways to enter: A. Internet access and valid Facebook® account required. Eligible participants may enter the Contest by purchasing from WIND™ Mobile a Huawei U2801™, Huawei U6150™, Huawei U8350™, Huawei U8651™, or Huawei Ascend P1™ and activating the handset with any WIND™ Mobile monthly plan, then visiting and “liking” the WINDmobile page on the Facebook platform*
The phone IS coming to WIND.

Also, the approx value is $3200 CAD.

Trips to LA from Toronto cost around $650. So for two that's $1300 one way. $2600 to go to and back from LA.

    That leaves $600.
Take away the cost of 2 $40 months.
The average cost of a 4-star hotel looks to be around $100 a 2-night stay is $200.

That leaves only $320 for the phone.
If it comes in for $399, I'll probably pick one up.
    Though I'm expecting a markup to $449.

Yeah, cause they run stock Android on their phones. OMAP4.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.
