Yes, there's an app called Signal that gives a graphical map of where the towers are around you. It's only available in the Cydia store and requires a jailbroken iPhone to install.
Unfortunately, it no longer works. I paid for it and it was working fine on my i4, however it does not display towers on my i4s on 5.0.1. All that shows on my screen is a map with my current location.
I have sent several messages regarding this to Planetbeing, but have never gotten a reply, and the app has not been updated since it first came out.
Save your money, this app is a a dead end.
I'd love to hear from someone who has gotten it to function properly.
Good to know, thanks. I haven't jailbroken an iPhone since that one, so I didn't know if it still worked or not. There are some similar apps for Android but none exactly like this one was.
Android has an app called Open Signal Maps that will show you the tower you are connected to on a map. The best thing I can think of for iPhone is the field test menu. You access it on the iPhone 4s by entering *3001#12345#* I know for a couple of iOS versions in the 4.0-4....... range they took it out due to the antenna problems and that it shows your dbm signal reading. I'm don't have an iPhone anymore so I'm not sure what all is in the field but I think it had things like UMTS Cell Environment and GSM Cell Environment, etc.
