What's Going on in NE PA?

I know that Vzw bought Cell One of NE PA last year from US Cellular. I just checked the coverage map and the whole area shows "No coverage!" I will be passing through here on my annual trek to New England next week. Why wouldn't Vzw allow roaming here since the sale approval is most likely ineviatble? It's weird to think that Vzw would have zero service on such a busy corridor (I-84). Didn't Vzw use to roam free on Cell One of NE PA?

The map is incorrect. I was up there a few weeks ago and had no problem making calls.

Have a cabin in Pocono's. Coverage is great there, now.

That really sucks. I have a friend with a cabin/lake in the northern Pocono's.

Part of its enjoyment was the complete lack of any cell phone service there.

There is coverage. It's 3G and there also appears to be a circle of 4G around Honesdale, though I can't confirm it. The coverage is there in both Pike and Wayne counties but it may be too poor to use because of all the hills and trees. VZW has absorbed them but I don't know how or if they'll beef up the coverage/network. I haven't been out there this year (my aunt/uncle have a cabin in Greentown near Promised Land) but in the past the coverage at their place/that location jumps between 0-2 bars and will most likely drop from 3G to 1X often, data works intermittently, and I've even had problems sending SMS. I don't think it's just VZW, go by Promised Land Lake and no carrier works (as far as I know).

It'd be great if VZW actually beefs up the network because it can definitely use it.

Knowing Verizon, they will swoop in and beef it up. Especially since it is a popular vacation spot from the Verizon-dominated NYC market.

I go to the cabin in Potter Co when I don't want cell service.

I was just in NE PA in East Stroudsburg, specifically Marshall's Creek, and I had service there. I would occasionally lose service driving the main road up the mountain but once in the cabin deep in the woods, I had almost full 3G the entire time.

Data was faster too when compared to my house in Staten Island.

Me too I was there 4 days ago and made so many calls without facing any problem

That would make sense, since in Stroudsburg/Marshall's Creek you'd be using Verizon, not CellularOne.

Update: Went up to cabin near Porters Lake on Rt. 402. Took the new Razr Maxx for the 1st time. Recption was not what it was previously. 1 to 2 bars (99 dBm). Disapointing. Might take the Bionic up next weekend to see if any different. I'm hopping it is maybe, leaves on trees or buying the US Cellular coverage.
