Why the hell not? I don't see a reason for using the APN profile anyway. Many use a FakeAPN to prevent per KB data charges when they don't have a data plan. Otherwise, it should not be needed, and can be why it is not working.
You could always jailbreak and use Commcenter patch or TetherMe.

You can always enable it again, just remove it and reset network settings. Do not add the profile again until you have tested if data and tethering is working. Using the ATT carrier bundle shouldn't require an APN change.
If you refuse to do something, you can just live with it. We cannot help you if you're too stubborn. I have tried to tell you what may fix it. Either try it or jailbreak and install Commcenter patch to have full APN control.
Can't you manually enter the APN details?

Thanks overdrive I did what u said. Deleted the apn, reset network settings and now it pops up. Sry if I was being a pain. Apparently I don't even need apn settings anymore cuz it seems like I can send and receive pictures fine?
Maybe u guys can help me. I currently have a iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1.1 with baseband 04.12.01. It is factory unlocked and I am using the $25 dollar AT&T gophone plan. When I was on ios 5.0.1 I had the option for personal hotspot. So I can create a network with my phone. For some reason it vanished when I updated to 5.1.1. U guys have any idea on how to get it back? Much appreaciated
On my iPhone 3GS when I started using it the hotspot didn't show up in the list till I put the APN into the tethering box on the APN list for data MMS and then tethering.
