RW is a sinking ship...and they know it. They're now heavily censoring forum feedback

Okay, I did a google search for "Republic Wireless service". I got a result of "Bad Service |republic wireless", from 1 day ago - which means it is a fresh review/feedback to their forums. I clicked on the link and got taken to their forums page, but this message appeared - "Access denied-You are not authorized to access this page." This is the message that appears when RW employees go in and delete posts and threads that they don't want people to see. There was no profanity in the post and no company-sensitive information, just someone's honest opinion about their experience with service so far; and because it was not a glowing report, RW decided to remove it. That is just WRONG! They create these forums because they want people to give honest, open feedback about their service and then when they don't like what people are saying, they delete it. NOT COOL! Underhanded companies, like this, are a big red flag for me. Yes, yes...I realize they can manage their forums as they see fit, but when you only allow the stellar reviews to be seen by the public and not the ones that give constructive criticism, I believe that speaks volumes about how a company does business and how they plan their cover-ups to keep themselves looking good when there are serious problems.

Anyway, here is the webcache link I found. Check it out for yourself.

    Bad Service

Republic phone service is flat out horrible. I have been a customer since the initial roll out last year, and I can honest say that between using the LG Optimus phone and Republic wireless service, I rate then both at a D-. Neither are ready or reliable enough for prime-time usage. Wi-Fi calling is a great concept, but Republic Wireless has not figured out how to make it work reliably. The most frustrating part is not being able to receive or make voice calls consistently (wi-fi or cellular).

Imagine a friend calling your number and your phone never rings, instead, the caller gets a recorded message saying “your call cannot be completed as dialed”, as if your Republic number has been disconnected. This, for one is very embarrassing knowing your $19 bill is current. The second major issue is that when you place a call, the call timer ticks away the seconds, and all of sudden, the phone disconnects. This disconnect occurs 8 out of 10 dialing attempts. You cannot place a three-digit call except for 911, no call forward feature, etc, etc. I, like most others thought paying $19.00 was a good deal, it is not! I reactivated my old Verizon Wireless service and it feels good to be back on a highly reliable network with calling features that actually work!

I have to say I agree with you....as the days go by I'm less and less inclined to stay....I keep holding out that the service will get updated and feel secure that I'll be able to make calls without being disconnected. Sometimes I can't even make a call. Yes, I've contacted support but that did not improve my connectivity. I so want this to work but the joke at the office is my phone....I cant tell you how many people have told me they hate to call me anymore due to major echoing, static, lag etc. Yes, its a beta program, but 7 months into it and no improvement is a little hard to take.>>

I was once a RW "member" as well. I can say that the dial out failures, lag time in voice, failed SMSes, and echoing/static were not great; it didn't happen only on my home WiFi, it was on most WiFi. And then when I would use the Sprint network they would never accurately calculate my CUI... I would never get credit for using the WiFi network, but always get hammered for using the cell network. I really think that this is a very novel concept, one that I thought up (and even have a business plan for) about five years ago... and I do wish them the best of luck. As for me, I am happier paying $3.00 more with T-Mobile and getting the exact same plan, plus great voice quality, good wifi/3G voice handoffs, unlimited wifi/cellular usage, international wifi plan usage, and good customer service!

PS: I finally found a way to use my RW LG Optimus, once it's out of their system, a few days after you request cancellation, then you can use it on WiFi - that's what I've been doing, since they don't sell well on e-bay. If I find a friend in need who has Sprint, I'm willing to give it to them - I did stop by a Sprint store and the gal told me that the phone was able to be used on the Sprint network (contrary to what RW CS had told me upon cancelling).

It was a good experience, I won't be going back... but glad I got to at least try out Android and use the Google Navigation alot while on RW.
T-Mobile. Connecting you when you need it most... disconnecting you when you need to connect with God's beautiful creation! Service is great in cities and highways, but in rural areas they leave you with just your surroundings. I encourage you to get T-Mobile, disconnect for a while!

I am glad that God is not like cell phone coverage. He does not hide behind mountains or loose us down long windy roads. The Lord levels mountains, and He makes our paths straight!

It's actually $23.23/month (so $4.23 more)... but this is a very old plan back from when VoiceStream was around. It's not longer available. I've had it now for eleven years.

Thanks for info. I'm in wave F but I'm really scared now with them . Looks like they just don't have enough power (man - power) to make it right... I just don't see others who has 300mbs of data and 500min and whatever left for sms plans .

Nice! I was originally an Omnipoint pre-paid customer, they were bought out by Voicestream (I switched to contract here), who would eventually be bought out by T-Mobile. I'm still signed up for a Republic Wireless Beta Wave, but there's nothing they could do to get me to switch at this point. My money is going to Ting when they get their new phones in a couple months.

How do you keep that old plan when you change phones? Or are you still using an 11 year old phone?

When I upgrade, there is only a very limited selection of phones. Two years ago, the nicest phone I could upgrade to was the Nokia Nuron. Then the Nokia Astound came out which I could have upgraded to, but my upgrade wasn't available. Now this time around, the nicest phone I could upgrade to was the Samsung Gravity TXT (my other options were the Samsung t259 and Samsung Smile).

I do know that the Nokia Lumia 710 will work with the plan, but it isn't compatible with our upgrade... I know, annoying! I do plan on purchasing a Nokia Lumia via T-Mobile Prepaid once they go down some in price.

Although, I have to say that the Samsung Gravity TXT is a nice phone - it's got good features... 3.5mm jack, video streaming, full qwerty keyboard, 2.0MP camera, visual voicemail, and a few other nice things for a basic phone. But, I can't wait to get the Nokia Lumia, primarily for the Nokia Maps/GPS Navigation.

Our plan also works with iPhones, too; it just doesn't work with Androids... and since that is mostly what T-Mobile carries now days, our phone selection is limited. When it comes to upgrades, it must be a feature phone only. When it comes to phone usage it can be anything that is not an Android.

I'll keep it that way, if it means $23.23/month for unlimited everything on cellular and wifi!

Well, I called the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in Raleigh - which is the city that covers the region RW is in - and they told me that the company has 20 complaints against them. For me, that is 20 too many. Whenever a consumer has to go to such lengths to report a company to the BBB, that says alot - that the company doen't offer outstanding customer service as to solve problems with customers. They also get negative reviews at yelp.com; and I've read numerous other articles across the internet that say that a service such as wi-fi calling (and just so you know, wi-fi calling has been around for a while, it really isn't anything new - one of the big carriers offered it a few years back as an add-on feature and MagicJack is based off of it, ohhh, Vonage - that is also based off of it. Wi-fi calling is nothing more than a cordless version of MagicJack that you can use with a a cell phone - telephone calls are routed through the internet instead of old-fashioned telephone lines, that's it) may be the next best thing, but RW is not executing its introduction to the general public very well. It is half-***** with no customer service or support, unless you like logging onto Facebook and Twitter non-stop to get someone to help you. And that, in my opinion, is no way to run a customer service department, by using free website services and expecting customers to open up an account there to get basic help.

I don't think wifi calling is any sort of magic. On tmo my "mytouch 4g" used the hotspot wifi feature to make calls in my primary area, because the network signal was weak. That's why I chose that phone. RW should work fine for me, cause I'm 75% in my wifi zone.

Oh come on... give it a rest..

I think you and everyone else here are forgetting something.. this is a BETA test, meaning, they know they have problems... They are taking a different approach to building and supporting something.. which is a community built/tested hybrid system..

Having worked in the mobile industry, I can tell you that Mobile phone companies spend millions on device/system testing (WiFi calling is relatively new so there is little testing) and even then, there is ZERO testing on Hybrid (instant phone/WiFi hand-off) calling. So considering this is Beta Wave B/C right now and an assuming we keep to 26 letters of the alphabet, calling foul on a service that is for all practical purposes brand new, is a little like saying "Well the cook looks a little sketchy, so lets skip it.. despite the fact that the ingredients look good and the kitchen looks fine, and the recipe is good". I'm sorry, but if everyone judged everything based on the initial impressions of a beta test, honestly a LOT of products would not be here now.

And NO, I'm not a shill or anything like that.. I just got my Beta Wave C invite and am super happy.. will I be switching it to my primary number.. Hell no!!!.. but at the target price and features they are positioning, I will give the beta a shot to make a good product.. (despite the evil sprint.. *shudder*)
