Is straight talk hspa? And do you need to be on the 60 plan to have does speed or just the 45 plan as long as the phone supports of course?

Straight Talk supports HSPA only on the BYOD Program but you also need the hardware to support it, do not buy Straighttalk Androids i repeat DO NOT buy their CDMA Androids they currently use Verizon and Sprint coverage and is MUCH smaller(as you can see on the coverage map) and Data is much slower your stuck on 3G and i dont remember where i read that is capped under 1gb for download. Tmo and At&T sim is the way to go on the BYOD program depending on what works better in your area.
You dont need to be on the $60, thats the International Calling plan.
Im currently on the $45 no problem.

One thing to keep in mind ST is not for users that consume Data extremely, Folks on the ST forum say that 2GB a month for data should keep you under the Radar. Ive used 2.5 this past month no problem, but im not getting on the phone to tether which would spike the data paramaters considerably nor im planning to..
Usually im between 1GB to 2GB of data usage per month, i tried to push it a bit more this month to see what happens Lol, but im always near Wifi so its not a big deal to me.

IF anybody is kinda curious on an estimate on data usage, this data calculator works pretty neat imo

5Gb for simple mobile really? But you have to be on the 60$ plan so you can have hspa speeds with them i.don't want to spend that much just 50 or lower lol.

HSPA+ is not 4G no matter if the little Icon shows 4G is not 4G technology is all marketting farce and on simple mobile you will get up to like 3 mbps anyhow dont use it excessively or they will cancel your service i heard "unlimited" for them is 1gb a month, from people that have reported their serviced cancelled, some reported 2-5 but they dont give you a warning or throttle you, they just cancel your serviced.

remember if is not LTE is not 4G, all companies are switching to it except prepaid, but all mayor carriers have swtiched and tmo is doing it as well, metro had it first, we can only hope for the best.

Yeah I was talking about the byod plans and cool so 45$ and you get hspa speeds that sounds cool. Does all data count towards it? I mean 2gb I assume that's a lot I'm on metro 40$ 4g plan all I really need it for is Facebook Twitter some web browsing some GPS and once in a blue moon a YouTube vid I'm usually always on WiFi so yeah just my gf might want to watch a little more YouTube then me not a lot but you know. Oh and every month the data usage resets right just making sure?
I'm not leaving metro yet but if by this end of summer they don't have nothing or a little in to fall then I'll just try out straight talk or simple.

Dude, calm down. This is not a debate about Gs...

It's a debate about SPEED. 7mbps - 12mbps for $45 per month can be whatever G it wants to be on my freakin' Jelly Bean 4.1 Samsung Galaxy Nexus. No one cares if it's "LTE" or not. It's about SPEED.

Think about it, this is what you are saying:
"I'm sorry, sir. The results of your speed test do not count, as you not holding an LTE phone."

Straight Talk BYOD (with an HSPA+ phone) matches or beats Metros slow LTE speed, and it sure beats Metros phone choice (since you bring whatever sim card phone you want to the party).

    DEBATE THIS:
1 mbps LTE is always going to lose to 10 mbps HPSA+. You know why? Because right now, all that is going over LTE is DATA. And in a data speed contest, 1 mbps is going to lose to 10 mbps. Doesn't matter if it's HSPA+, Wi-Max, or LTE. Data speed is ALL that counts right now.

DATA, DATA, DATA... no voice calls.

Only data goes over LTE, especially on Metro. No voice. There's no VoLTE yet. Sure Metro PROMISED us VoLTE roll out back early 2011, and then again early 2012, and then.... but like most promises MetroPCS never delivered. They can't do VoLTE right now. There's too many technical problems with handoffs. So, VoLTE is on the shelf until they decide to trot it back out again in another empty promise.

Until then, if VoLTE ever materializes on MetroPCS, all phone calls go over CDMA. NOT "4G". So, the ONLY thing being transferred over Metro's LTE is DATA.

Say it with me -- "DATA". Come on, mouth the words: "data".

And you know what wins in transferrring data? SPEED.

Therefore, 1 mbps LTE is always going to lose to 10 mbps HPSA+. Because 10 mbps is FASTER than 1 mbps.

I'm not saying Metro's LTE is always 1mbps. I get faster here and there. Today, doing a speed test on Metro, I got 4 mbps.

What I am saying is there's no "religion" benefits to the type of network, if all that's being transferred is DATA. Using LTE won't get you to heaven, and HSPA+ won't send you to hell. But HSPA+ compared to Metro's LTE, will get you to where you are going a little faster.

At this point in time, use whatever technology will get you data faster.

The only reason LTE is "winning" among carriers is because it has the potential to get to 100mbps, true 4G speeds. However, MetroPCS will never get those speeds. Verizon and AT&T will. Metro doesn't have enough spectrum and bandwidth to push those speeds and they're not even trying to get any. So, Metro's LTE speed is not any faster, and is sometimes slower than HSPA+ to use when TRANSFERRING DATA.

THEREFORE Metro's LTE at this point in time is NOT better than Straight Talk's "AT&T" and "T-Mobile" HSPA+ offerings. You can get (equal or) MORE speed and BETTER phones (much better!) with Straight Talk BYOD.

Here's SPEED TEST on iPhone 4S on ST AT&T BYOD:

$45 per month. Beat that, Jack. Not just the speed, but the phone.

No plans to switch at the moment.

I've thought about it and was thinking of either switching to Sprint or T-Mobile but when I did the math it was just too much in the long run for the phone, the fees, and the service piling up on each other month after month. Granted, once it's paid off you're kind of in the clear but I'd rather buy the phone itself and just pay the price of the service every month.

Anyway, living in the NY area I get pretty decent LTE speeds on Metro's network and the Connect has met most if not all of my requirements with regards to it's capabilities. Plus it's dual core and the internal memory is more than enough to work well, about the only complaints I would have are the sucky battery and the lack of ICS.

That Simple Mobile BYOD thing looks like an interesting approach though so if Metro for whatever reason went under I'd most likely go that route.

I'd like to switch to TING.COM however I can't afford the phone I'd want (plus they are suppose to be getting a better selection), so I'll be with MetroPCS for the foreseeable future.
If you have wifi and GPS on your phone, check out Navizon. Navizon gives you money to log wifi and cell phone towers.http://my.navizon.com/Webapps/UserAd...e=575F5C575D5D

I'm thinking Chazz may have convinced me.

I get Google support for OS updates (we know how that goes with Metro, and all carries really), a better phone, better coverage, lower monthly price. The only down side is I am one of the grandfathered unlimited $50 users but truth be told I don't think I ever come close to 2Gb.

Sell the Esteem for around 200... yea...

That and I really feel an obligation to Chazz. We both had a Optimus, then Esteem, I would feel lost if I did not follow him to the Nexus fourm.
