Using non-Apple vs Apple sync cable
Is there any difference between using a non-Apple sync cable compared to an Apple one for your iDevice(s)?

Yes. Some don't meet certifications. I had a retractable cord one that worked with an old iPod nano 1G, but not an iPod touch. The original iPod Nano cable worked with both devices and so did all my other 3rd party cables. The retractable cable one only worked with the Nano, so I sent it to the eWaste recyclers.Originally Posted by fafa416

I have several aftermarket cords and the only issue I ever had was it not fitting some cases on the iPhone.

The iPhone 3GS is picky about what cable can be used to charge the phone but is more tolerant for synchronization.
