Sorry, might be a dumb question, complete newb here. Company I work for (in Toronto) needs a 3G iPad for use in Rwanda. What's our best bet? Any of the iPads sold here can be bought unlocked? Would we have to get it unlocked somehow? Or should we be looking into buying it locally in Rwanda?
The Apple iPad series were never locked to a carrier. The carrier you intend to use must offer the microSIM card or you will have to cut down a mini SIM card to fit. Since that country does not offer any iPhones, it would be unlikely that they would have microSIM cards available. Only two carriers there show 3G service according to the GSM Association's website. http://maps.mobileworldlive.com/netw...7&cname=Rwanda, Republic of
For some reason none of the coverage maps on the GSMA website display. You can go to the AT&T Coverage viewer at http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer/#?type=voice and clck on the International tab. Search for Rwanda and select the Data tab at the top of the map to see the coverage.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.
