One of the subscriber surveys earlier this year focused on financing options. Those surveys almost always turn out to telegraph the introduction of a new product.

I wouldn't be surprised if VM offers a way for customers to finance the purchase of an iPhone, especially if demand doesn't meet Sprint's expectations. My guess is to look for this in a month or so, no later than the 4th quarter of the year.

If u r on prepaid, then the most impirtant draw would b much lower monthlh fees in exchnage 4 the upfront cost of devices. Your suggestion dosnt make any sense, as that would just b the same as postpaid with subsidies, in which case, they might as well b going back 2 one of the big 4 anyhow...

Apple is a company where you rarely see price drops. Maybe once a new iPhone model is available there could be a $50-$100 drop, but I highly doubt anything more.

They usually just produce the new model and stop with the old one, instead of selling the old one cheap. Some exceptions with the iPad2... which dropped to $400 once the $500 iPad3 was available. Similarly with the iPhone 4 and 4S, and even 3GS.

I honestly don't see why Virgin Mobile or any of the prepaid carriers would lower the price when the new iPhone releases.

it's still very likely to NOT be an option on Virgin Mobile, etc. so its not much incentive to reduce the price two or three months later.

of course that's me looking at it from a non-business savvy point of view, but I think it makes sense. even if it's less beneficial for us.

a good example is the Galaxy Nexus. it's cheaper unlocked from Google Play than it is unsubbed from Sprint or Verizon. it's even got a price drop on Google Play... do you think Sprint and Verizon followed suit? it's literally $300 more now.

Discounted refurb units might be a possibility. They'll want to sell off those warranty repaired units somewhere, and they can't be sold as new.

IIRC, the only refurb iPads Apple sells are one generation behind. So Apple and VM might not sell any refurb VM phones until the new models come out.

Your answer is in the price of the iphone 4 itself.. It is a 2 year old phone, and it is 550 flipping dollars... Those price points are so ridiculously high it hurts my soul...... Iphone 4s; 650.. HTC EVO 3D 299.99.. So i can get me and my wife two evo 3d's for the price of one iphone... or.. Iphone4; 550.. HTC ONE V. 199.99. Seriously, is it even a question?? You want apps apple has?? buy a used 3gs or 4 on cl for anywhere from 80-200 bucks, and use it on wifi. and get a android phone for calling and text...

Why buy a used iPhone for wifi? Buy a new iPod Touch, instead.

If you don't like VM's price for the iPhone, don't buy it. Simple.

Because iPod touch does not have a mic, so you can't use it for calling?

4th gen iPod touch has a mic, as well as front and rear facing cameras. I believe you can even use FaceTime on them.

    4G LTE + 4G WiMAX + 3G

Back in May, FreedomPop started taking preorders for its FreedomSleeve, a $99 iPhone 4/4S case that offered WiMax-based backhaul with local WiFi for the phone — and 1 MB of free “starter” data as well.

Things have changed a bit since then, explains C/Net. It’s also added a second sleeve for the phoneless-iPod. It measures 2.4 inches by 4.5 inches by 0.6 inch — almost exactly the same size as the iPhone 3GS. Its built-in lithium polymer battery (1,450mAh) is good for over 6 hours, according to FreedomPop. The case plugs into the iPod’s docking port, then recharges via what appears to be a Mini-USB connector in the bottom.

The new iPod Touch 4G Sleeve also turns your iPod into a wireless hotspot, allowing up to eight additional devices to connect to it.

The iPod Touch 4G Sleeve offers no-contract nationwide 4G by way of Sprint’s FD-LTE and its 3G data network, as well Clearwire’s WiMax network. That’s a big change from the original FreedomSleeve for iPhone, which was going to be limited to WiMax. The new FreedomSleeve will now also connect to these additional networks and give users 500MB of data for free per month. No voice.

FreedomPop will also give you an extra 10MB per month for each friend you refer, for a maximum of 1GB of free data per month. You can extend that all the way to 5GB by “engaging in partner offers and promotions,” according to FreedomPop.

The iPod Touch Sleeve sells for $99 shipped. FreedomPop says the sleeves will ship in “late summer.”

FREE data is awesome. Plus they're a Sprint mvno featuring Prepaid Wireless Data on the NEW Sprint LTE service. We may just see LTE offers appear on Sprint's Prepaid Virgin Mobile much sooner than expected.

Maybe the next gen. iPhone (5) will be VM's Flagship before the end of 2012... Since the iPhone is already on Sprint's Virgin Mobile service without subsidies, there is no reason to delay introducing the next generation device upon introduction. That would result in Virgin Mobile reducing the current iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 price to levels similar to the current price of Apple's previous generation unlocked and contract-free iPhones.

    VM iPhone 5 ..... $649
    VM iPhone 4S ... $549
    Vm iPhone 4 ..... $375

Ting is opening with the GSIII (LTE) on pre-order with it shipping in 3-6 weeks. I'm not sure if Sprint is ready to sell LTE service on their prepaid side just yet. Sprint seems to be marketing cost and unlimited against Verizon and AT&T right now. It may be telling if Boost and Virgin is in fact throttling 4G WiMAX @ 2.5GB, this may indicate how limited any prepaid LTE offering could be.

That is a major accomplishment for Ting, the GSIII (LTE) sets them apart and places them well ahead of the prepaid pack.
    GSIII 16Gb $529
    GSIII 32Gb $579

    Features
    LTE
Expected to launch in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio throughout 2012, LTE gives you average download speeds of 9-13 Mbps and peak rates of up to 26 Mbps.
    3G
Where LTE isn't available, get standard 3G coverage with average download speeds of 400-700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps..
Now they need the iPhone to complete their device Line-Up.
