So, I keep hearing reports from people who got an SMS like this:
Did anyone get this sms? If so, what do you think?MOBILICITY: The $20 Unlimited Asia LD add-on is ending on Aug. 10, and will be switched to our new 4000min $20 Asia LD add-on Aug. 10. Call 611 for more info

I don't think its a bad thing as you cant expect a carrier to be able to over calling to several different countries on a unlimited basis for $20 over a mobile phone.
It will surely annoy some people but your still being given 2.75 days straight of calling. If you need more then that in 31 days you may want to consider other options.
I do feel though that this will cause a lot of people to become unhappy as they may have to think about how much they are talking to family over seas.

I agree that its only fair Mobilicity does this. A lot of Asian house makers will stand up in revolt though as it would only give them 2.2 hours to talk to family everyday.
I am an existing customer on this add on, and received this sms

Do people really need more than that?
If this is true, I hope that they will advertise it as a 4000 minute add-on and not continue to call it unlimited.
According to the OP's email or text, it will be called the 4000 min Asia LD add-on.
As for the "many families" that use more than 2.2 hours EVERY SINGLE DAY - first off, that's crazy. Second, if you really use that much, you can either buy a 2nd line (and get an additional 2.2hrs/day), find an additional means of calling, or cut down on the calling.
Still a heck of a deal.
Use a VOIP app for calling out.
So if you pay $40 does that give you 8000 minutes?
I bet their system can't handle that since it's an addon and addons are just a yes/no checkbox.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
While 4000 minutes is a lot for anyone, is this move signaling the beginning of the end of the word unlimited in Mobilicity's vocabulary? This is a huge shift in policy and goes well beyond the question of who has the time to spend more than 3 days a month on the phone. As easily as unlimited became 4000 minutes, it can be changed to an even lower number in the future. Are we going to see a contagion that will afflict data usage next. Sorry for being a bit off topic.

Well, Mobilicity could move to a data-style approach "throttling" your use of long distance.
Running the numbers, assuming voice calls suck up 10kbps, 4000 minutes is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.4 gigs of data transferred.
Unlike with data (like if you were using Skype instead to chat) Mobilicity has to pay termination rates on the Indian side (which seem to government regulated in India somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.7-1 cents/minute - meaning that if you talk your 4000 minute max than just the termination charges for that are likely costing Mobilicity about $40 ... a loss of $20 on the addon price before even taking into account any of Mobi's other operational costs.
