San Fransisco Tips to protect your cell phone in hot weather

Hot weather can put a cell phone out of commission.

With temperatures in the 100s predicted for the next few days in Sacramento, mobile phone service provider MetroPCS sends along these tips for cell phone protection in hot weather:

    - Avoid leaving cell phones in direct sunlight. Placing cell phones on the bench at courtside, on a beach or on a car dashboard can damage the devices.

"Direct sunlight can easily damage devices and components," said MetroPCS product expert Jay Moller. "It's best to protect phones by concealing them in tote bags or under towels."

    - Temperatures skyrocket in car trunks. Avoid keeping them in car trunks for too long a duration. "Cell phones have tiny, heat-sensitive components," he said.

    - And finally, Moller said, when poolside, don't forget to take a cell phone out of you swimsuit pocket before jumping in the water.
