Has anyone else had experience moving an unlocked 3G iPhone to iwireless (Iowa) www.iwireless.com? I cannot get MMS to work, in spite of implementing the recommended fixes, etc. from Cydia. One of their store employees told me after trying several network settings that 3G iPhones can't send/receive MMS on their network, it must be at least a 3GS or higher. I can't fathom why that would be. Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

Iowa Wireless might help you. At least the did for friend(s) who have an iPhone with them. I sold an old iPhone 3GS factory locked to AT&T, to one friend who took it to a Iowa Wireless store and they got it working for him. He is fairly computer illiterate, so he wouldn't have done it himself.

AT&T go phone, tmobile prepaid, straight talk? Again it's with all do respect

iWireless is a T-Mobile affiliate, though T-Mobile considers iWireless native area as partner coverage. One would be roaming. T-Mobile doesn't have a lot of native coverage in Iowa, it's mostly iWireless.
AT&T's Go Phone uses AT&T's network, which is not the same as iWireless.
I am not sure how Straight Talk works in comparison to iWireless prepaid MegaTalk plans, which are fairly inexpensive. Pay in advance plans start as low as $6 for 3 days service. If one wants data, as low as $9 for 3 days talk, text and web.
Unfortunately this did not work, nor did the network settings from Overdrive31. I can take a photo, begin the send process, but it hangs up just near the end...holds, then fails. Perhaps the iWireless rep was right, iPhone 3G is not MMS compatible on their network. Any other thoughts, please?
By the way, I chose iWireless as I am not a big data person with a smartphone, and don't want to be forced to buy a data plan if I don't want it. I bring my own smartphone, iWireless could care less about a data plan.
what are all the tweaks you have tried? what data APN is being used? more details on what service you pay for can help, and these details should have been in your first post... try removing(leave blank) the max message size.
Solution finally found! You definitely CAN enable MMS on an older iPhone 3G using iWireless. The steps I used: 1) Removed Ultrasn0w, installed Ultrasn0w Fixer for 5.1 2) Installed Commcenter Patch 3) Programmed the following MMS network settings: APN-wap9.iwireless.com MMSC - http://mmsc.iwireless.dataonair.net:6672 MMS Proxy - 209.4.229.32:9401 Max Message Size - 60000 IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are like me and don't have/want a data plan, DO NOT have ANY settings in the Cellular Data fields, turn off 3G and disable Data Roaming. I am probably a rare person who does not want to pay for data that I don't really use (WI-FI is fine with me), and I left AT&T because they force these expensive plans on you if you have any kind of smart phone (even though I buy them privately). Get a clue AT&T !!!!!!!! Hooray for iWireless !!!!!!!!!!! Saved me $129/month!
I also encountered this problem, hoping to find a better solution.
Such as?
The OP needs to amend his steps, but what do you mean by better?
Step 1. should be install Ultrasn0w 1.2.7(fixer is obsolete and not needed with IOS 4.2.1 btw), if you need the software unlock and have a supported baseband(requires jailbreak). The phone must be unlocked to work with this carrier. If you don't want to jailbreak, you need to have a carrier unlock.
Step 2. same, it allows full APN editing(requires jailbreak), which I advised in post #2. If you don't want to jailbreak, it gets much more difficult, but not impossible to get your APN settings entered. For the methods used look under MMS for devices not requiring jailbreak - HERE. For data use the Unlockit APN Profile Creator(if not jailbroken)
Step 3. same, look at post #4 in this thread for details. I have read that some have problems with the Max message size, in that case, try leaving the setting blank.
Step 4. the OP realized he didn't need a data APN entered if he didn't have a data plan, which was his problem all along.
Step 5. if you're gonna post a problem, at least give all the details, quit making everyone guess or try to read your mind.
