    Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile LTE?

There was another announcement this morning of a Sprint wholesale partner, FreedomPop, that will begin offering 3G/LTE service in addition to their WiMAX offerings. They join Ting another Sprint wholesale partner and MVNO operator in offering prepaid pay as you go 4G LTE services via the Sprint network.

Does this strengthen the possibility of Sprint offering their own prepaid LTE via Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile? or does Sprint just plan on letting a small amount of wholesale subs join in?

Sprint will probably introduce entry level to mid-grade LTE devices on Virgin Mobile, but it would be nice to see a $500 HTC EVO 4G LTE replace the EVO V several months from now.

Operating without a contract makes you far more valuable.

Post Sprint Prepaid getting LTE ?

I heard Sprint's contract with Clearwire expires on 2013. SO, what do you guy's think ? Will sprint really bring LTE to prepaid side ? I have also heard from sources that virgin will get galaxy note and boost will get epic touch 4g on august 22. That will be something big.

Actually their contract with Clearwire is supposed to expire in 2015 and even then I suspect it will take months until it's completely shut off. Just look at iDen and how long it's taking to shut it down.

It would certainly be nice to see LTE on Sprint prepaid, especially since Ting is going to offer it and they are a Sprint MVNO.

My opinion however is that we (Sprint prepaid users) won't see LTE being offered on either VM or BM until WiMax is shut down somewhere in 2015. The reason is simple. Sprint has to offer a more premium service on their contract plans than on their prepaid plans, because contract customers are more valuable to Sprint. Otherwise people would say "Why bother singing a contract with Sprint if both VM and BM offer LTE?"

Probably as early as Summer 2013. WiMax will be supported until 2015, but there are very few WiMax devices available for Prepaid Sprint and there are no plans to produce new WiMax devices for Sprint's prepaid brands, other than rebranding any existing inventory. The early LTE devices will be about 9 to 12 months old next Summer (2013), making them the 1st LTE devices available to Sprint's Prepaid VM and Boost.

You don't know that at all.

Just because they dropped a few Wi-Max devices to prepaid there is nothing in stone that it's going to be the norm.

They could very well introduce prepaid specific devices that are LTE also.

Most probably august 22. Something big cannot be galaxy reverb. It has to be the note for virgin and epic touch for boost.

    Time will tell.
Sprint has held some pretty big events for duds in the past. Look no further than the Kyrocera Echo.

The echo was intended to be revolutionary in that it had dual screens. I can at least see why someone in the pipeline thought that was worth making a big deal about.

I cannot see why they'd make a big deal about a phone if it wasn't a high end exclusive.

    A Reverb isn't nearly event-worthy to me. Neither is a Nexus S.

I don't even think a Galaxy Nexus or SGSII is either, but I'll forgive them if it is one of those.

I think I'll find a way to give them a pass if it is a CDMA Note or a SGSIII.

edit: I just realized this was the LTE thread and not the speculation thread.

An older phone with LTE would be event worthy, because at least it would be bringing LTE to the carrier. Right now, that would only be the Gal Nex, right?

Yea releasing galaxy reverb by holding a press event will be disappointing. And they should release LTE on prepaid side because tmobile has the cheapest HSPA+ 4G $30 plan where you get 5 gb data, 100 min and unlimited text and it actually gets around 10 mbps but virgin has 2.5 gb for 35 bucks for 200 kbps. If I had known about that t mobile plan before, I would have never switched to virgin. Many people will leave virgin as the prepaid market is getting more competitive. I hope a kickass LTE phone will be announced on august 22. Galaxy prevail for boost was the samsung's best selling phone so they might give something special to prepaid side.
Its not like prepaid customers can't afford to pay unsubsidized price of the phone. Besides virgin mobile's phone prices are slightly subsidized. Anything around $500 will be most welcome.
