Huawei E583C Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Service Downtown Toronto?

    Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can provide feedback regarding this device in Toronto (preferably Downtown) and the speed and reliability. Comparison to Wind Mobile's?

Also, I was browsing the website and could not find the plans associated. Or does this device just piggy back off your mobile unlimited plan?

All I need to do is basic email and internet browsing for work via VPN. No streaming etc.

    Thanks!

Can't speak for the phone, don't own one these. I would imagine phone hardware has a second order effect on performance compared to network attributes.

Mobilicity network downtown is quite good. If you are underground, then all bets are off. Often when I am downtown, I use the phone for vpn access into work. It is more than capable for that your of use.

On you question about wind vs Mobilicity, no question wind has a much larger coverage area. However, Mobilicity has done a much better job with the network than wind. With wind, a weak signal invariably results in terrible performance. Mobilicity network otoh is generally usable down to the last asu. Wind also has much slower upload speeds. Call quality, Mobilicity wins by a county mile. Concerning customer service, wind has NONE.

I have used both wind and Mobilicity. Because wind service is so bad, I am forgoing their superior coverage area in favor of everything else. That said, Mobilicity has shown intentions to expand. Of course words mean little until it actually happens.

I've only had the best of experience with WIND's customer service.

Really? In the very short period of time that I tried wind, I was unable to achieve anything when talking to cs. The people were very nice and had lovely voices, lol. But in terms of helping to resolve issues, they did nothing apart from assigning ticket numbers. When I cancelled, I was asked to talked to retention. I thought that department would try to see what they can do to convince me to stay. Instead all the guy did was confirm that I was leaving. I guess to each his own. I can't call this customer service by any measure.

    Thanks for the input!

When you say phone for VPN are your referring to creating a mobile hotspot using your android phone?

I spent about a month totally depending on using a Huawei data stick - NOT the hotspot, but they might have comparable performances - while I was waiting for Teksavvy to get installed at my apartment. I started using it on Wind - they had some kind of deal at the time that basically got me the stick for free. At my apartment (around Jarvis/Wellesley) I had full bars but the service was just too slow to use, most of the time. So I got a Mobi SIM/plan, used that for the month. Mobi had fast enough speeds, but the signal would drop out every few days. So I would basically use the Mobi one 95% of the time for the useable speeds, but when it wasn't working and I absolutely needed to send some stuff online, I'd pop the Wind one in and sit there tearing my hair out as it plodded along. I don't recommend that you use both at once, of course, but that was my experience. And it might have been different if I'd lived eight blocks away.

Yes. Actually I prefer usb tether over WiFi hotspot. With usb tether, the battery is kept charged. On Wi-Fi, the battery only lasts about 4 hours.

    Hi,

I have the Wifi Hotspot hardware. Anyone know how to get it to work? Right now it has full bars as a wireless option but the internet itself is not working.
