When I spoke to the Telus rep a few days ago, she mentioned that the renewal fee is waived if you have 4 months remaining. This suggests Telus has cheaped out as I remember upgrading for free when I had 6 months left in the past.

I haven't really followed Telus since they switched over to the new pay for early upgrades. My question is, do they still waive the 6 month early upgrade fee as they did previously to this new policy? Or now do you have to pay $60?
Thanks.

Yes, it had always been at least 6 mos.
When I used to work in the industry retentions used to push renewals up to 1.5 year left. I left the industry at the right time from what I hear.
Telus changed from early upgrade being at 6 months to 4 months a little while ago. It doesn't mean you can't call retentions and try to get them to extend that back to 6 months.
so at six months, you still have to pay $90 (assuming discount was $15/mo) + $50 admin fee = $140 ECF total?
I have never had a problem lately getting retentions to extend a free renewal to 6 months. Beyond the six months I have seen 25% and 50% discounts on the early upgrade fee up to 1.5 years until expiry depending on how much you spend on average or how many lines on the same bill. So discounts and exceptions are not hard to find. The early upgrade only has the standard hardware swap fee from a dealer, no $50 cancellation administration fee. The there is a promo to waive the swap fee on the galaxy s3 and you can ask retentions if they can discount the swap fee before hand.

That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

If you already have a smartphone under contract then its 6 months...if your upgrading from a non smartphone to a smartphone then you will be able to renew with the 6 months left with no EDUF or Device Balance Repayment fee.
