Question about data before I go to ST

Hello everyone, I have a question about going to straight talk from red pocket. I know straight talk limits you to 2 gigs of data a month and 100 mbs s day. Is it possible for me to use 95-99 mbs a day for a month without getting flagged? That would end up pushing the data at about 2.7-2.9 gigs a month has anyone ever done this? I mean if we keep it under 100 mbs a but push it to the limit each day of the month we would end up going over the the 2gig cap

Why don't you try this and report back to us? Tell us what general area you're in and which sim you picked. Let us know if/when you get that call and how much you used.

I think you'll get throttled pretty quickly.

I haven't been able to get a clear answer on this subject, even directly from ST. What I've been told, ST is an MVNO for multiple carriers and each individual carrier has their own policy. In other words, ST doesn't even know what the caps are.

The way it was explained to me, usage patterns, how much strain it puts on the system and a bunch of other factors are more important than the actual amount of data used per day. I have a Samsung Proclaim running on the Verizon network, I exceeded 300MB on several days, used 1.2GB for the month with no problems. I also heard stories where someone tried to tether or use their phone as a hotspot and were shut down quickly to the point where their phone just plain stopped working and they had to get the phone replaced. Others have reported using up to 4GB per month with no problems. I was told no YouTube, but I watched YouTube on my phone and nothing happened.

The 100MB per day 2GB per month is the rumoured "safe zone" so far we know exceeding the 100MB per day cap on several days has no effect.

Thanks for the reply,I was thinking that 2 gigs a month would have to be less than 100 Meg's a day if used every day. We would be looking around 65-70 megs a day. Most of us are using smart phones iOS and android which can easily run up data usage pretty fast without us noticing

They probably mean up to 2GB per month, with SPIKES of up to 100MB per day. Obviously most days would have to be less, as 30 days x 100MB = 3,000MB = 3GB. You couldn't do 100mb (or even slightly less than 100mb to be safe) EVERY day of the month, if the 2GB rule is to be enforece.
Your creed may be interesting, but your deeds are much more convincing.

I have some days where I go way over 100 and others where I use very little. I average 100. In Minneapolis area on tmo sim. Got 1 warning and let my account expire for a few months. Active again for 2 months with no warnings.

Syncing your account, browsing a few sites and downloading email isn't going to run you over 2GB/month on a non-business account. Most of us are aware of what apps we run, and it's some of those apps that can run us over the limit.

I used the browser a bit for bus schedule times, and checked email, and I'm up to a rousing 266KB, per "my data manager". Since I started on tmobile on Jun 20th, I have 2 days of about 80MB, 1 ea of 60, 50, 40, and the rest are much less. I find google play, and speedtest.net are both data hogs. I no longer use the latter, and as for play, when I''m looking for something, I use my laptop - I still get the d/l "charge" but I don't get all of play's junk while it's getting ready.Total since Jun 20th 474MB, most of it in the first week(new toy). I set the alarm to 20MB daily so I know where I'm at. No tether, stream, etc. I sync gmail and contacts, but that's all. In listening to complaints about ST's speed, it's hard to tell whether it's the amount, or what they are doing. Having worked with packet monitors, I would think it's rather easy for a company to tell what you are doing...

There isn't a fixed limit. Some get away with more than others. It depends on the demographic area and network traffic for your area. I've pushed over 4Gb with no flag. Other times I've gotten under 1gb with a warning. Its just the luck of tthe card but I have noticed mmore throttling happening than warnings and cut off.
