Why do you have a problem getting the GS3 on the WindTab?

OK first off, I was one of the many who was vocally ticked at Wind for not allowing an upgrade to the GS3 (check my posts ). Well now they are allowing it, and I'm done being ticked. Simple. But now some of you don't want to put it on the WindTab, which I don't understand. $300 for this phone is a steal. I know it means I'm gonna be stuck with Wind for the next 3 years, but guess what? I've got the HMP and I aint going anywhere, so it was a no brainer for me to do it on the Tab. So put it on the Tab, and if you wanna leave, well you can, and at that point, you pay the phone off and you're gone. And you won't have to pay any cancellation fees like the Big 3. So how is this a bad thing? If I'm missing the point, please enlighten me.

OP: Not sure if this has changed, but I was told at a corp store you couldn't go on the WindTab with the HMP. You had to switch to the new $40 plan.

Here is why I didn't want the Tab (and the reason I went and bought outright at Mobilicity.

    1. Wind wouldn't sell to me (a previously loyal customer)
    2. Mobilicity was $599 (not $649)
    3. I have an existing Windtab of $100 (from my Nexus S in 2011 DOH!)

So lets pretend Wind would give me a tab of $200
649-200+100 to pay out existing tab.

So I would save $50 over 3 years. HARDLY worth my effort, especially when they made us wait 2 weeks.

I am actually considering adding a line for my spouse and getting a 2nd GS3 from Mobilicity and getting the 30 unlimited plan at Mobi.

Wind messed this up hardcore. The only reason I care about wind is their HMP.

You can definitely get the Samsung GS3 on Windtab if you also already have the HMP. I know because that's exactly what I did 4 days ago when they first sent out the email saying existing customers could switch. Mind you, I did the upgrade at a non corporate location, (kiosk in mall, Vancouver) so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Maybe the sales guy just didn't know better but either way I have my new phone and was able to keep my HMP (which I've had since it started two years ago).

Please look into this before generalizing. If we're comparing only hardware subsidy, both TELUS and Rogers prove to be more beneficial on hardware subsidization alone, compared to WIND. Including "cancellation fees".

You might want to compare to Bell at this point.

I don't want to put a phone on a tab because that means going post paid. I have HUGE issues with post paid accounts and have done ever since Rogers effed me up the arse and attempted to take me to court over monies I never owed. I won that case and the subsequent counter case, but the **** I had to deal with and STILL have to deal with 7 years later has put me in a position of being extremely careful about who has control over MY money. When I first joined WIND in January 2010 the primary reason was because of a promise they made to treat pre-paid customers the same as post paid but it's now apparent that they have no intention of following through. Tony's made it clear that the future of WIND lies solely in post-paid and tabbed accounts and their actions in the SIII launch, the recent XBox incentive, and the $200 faux bonus for new sign ups with post paid accounts only prove otherwise. Over 65% of WIND users are pre-paid, is it any wonder a whole bunch of us are royally pissed for being treated like our business doesn't matter?

Who ever told you that had to be new. You eligible for the $299 price. And I think if you can up grade that you can buy it out right, you just can't get the $200 credit

That 200 credit is useless. Its valid on addons etc. This is a stunt I would expect from Rogers.

I don't want to get a wintab because I have a nexus s on windtab and it has 350 tab left at the moment. I would end up paying the same amount of money if I paid the rest of the 350 and got the gs3 on a new tab with 300 down. The only difference is I do not extend my "wintab" another six months cause 6 months have already gone since my first wintab sign up. Much more convenient for me and I have the money to pay $650.

Wow slow down there. It may not be as useful as a direct credit but it is helpful to those not on a HMP. Now people can have free voice mail etc for 10 months, or long distance calling. It's not for everyone, but it does help some people out.

Well, if you do not like voicemail, how can you get the full benefit of $20/month? Which addons do you use? (and I mean USE, not "add on but never use".). Premium data? Europe roaming? Most of the addons are something you will rarely use. The only usable thing is Roaming.

The $20 doesnt carry forward as well, so you lose what you dont use. This is like forcing you to add addons to make up for $20, and hopefully you will forget to cancel them later on.

This is a stunt I would expect from Rogers. --> This line means wind is actively trying to make you spend more. This is something Rogers does every so often. (a few days ago, they changed Fido from per second to per minute billing). When wind launched they were all for "we are here to save you from the greedy big3 who charge you for everything and try to make you spend on things you dont need". Now they are doing the same.

Back on topic, if I was asked the same question, I would not get windtab, because if you cancel, they send it directly to a credit collection agency, without a last bill for your final windtab balance. (1 week ago someone complained that this still isnt fixed). This destroys your credit, but it is completely wind's fault. I wont give wind a license to destroy my credit on their own terms.

Who asked for charity? We do pay money to them for their services. They want more money, without offering more value.

    Simple.
I'm on the $35 Irresistible plan. Therefore, I do not qualify for the WindTab. This was never explained before yesterday. The promise was that there would be an "exclusive offer" for existing customers, which turned out to be complete BS.

I would be forced to switch to the new $40 plan just to get the WindTab. That's an extra $5/month for a plan that has less features. To make up for that, I'd have to get the Voicemail and US Calling/texting add-ons. That's $18/month. So my new plan cost me $40/month for 11 months (because of the $200 in service credits), then $58/month from then on. That's $630 more over three years, plus the $299 up front to pay for the damn phone! Just to save $350 on a phone (if I choose not to leave Wind early)

Instead, I bought it from Mobilicity. Paid $599 plus $32 to unlock it. I paid the $632 up front, but I don't have to give Wind a penny if I leave in the next 36 months.
In fact, if I switch to Mobilicity now, I'll save an extra $5/month. That's $180 over three years. I'm VERY tempted to do this... trust me. I just don't know anything about Mobilicity's coverage in my area. I'd hate to switch then find out it's worse than expected.

This is true. Be careful with Mobilicity's coverage because it can be so bad it's not worth changing carriers, no matter how low or tempting their plans are.

I actually switched from Wind to Mobilicity last year. The coverage and reception with Mobilicity was so bad (at least here in Calgary) that I ported back to Wind in less than a month.

Also, I'm wondering: If you try to get Windtab will they need to do a credit check? There's no way I'm taking the chance on my credit getting dinged just so I can save a few bucks on a phone.

Or you could have just cancelled the addons once the credits are used up, switched plans for the Windtab, and only paid $299 for the phone.
The money you would save on the phone makes up for the loss on the plan price.

Of course, that only works if you're going to stick with Wind for 3 years, but is an option anyway.
