You can check the diagnostics and see it gets deleted. Mine only go back from the date I did a clean restore and I had the phone jailbroken before that.
I believe there is a way to delete them without being jailbroken as crash reports are not hidden from the user.

There is. You should be able to delete crash and other system logs through both the iOS Configurator and XCode.
