Canadian Samsung Warranty Experiences & Policies?

Hey there,

I'm looking into purchasing a Samsung S3 from the States (No receipt, bnib) but wanted to know if anybody has any info on what is required by SamsungCanada for any claims?

Last I've checked - Rogers (to compare) is the only provider that will process a warranty on a Rogers-Purchased-Device without the receipt. They do this via the IMEI which is linked to the warranty start date. I'm sure you need to be a customer of Rogers, but otherwise, they only need the IMEI. I don't know if anybody else just pulls it from the IMEI.

Is there any chance that SamsungCanada also will honour it by IMEI alone? This could be a unique circumstance as the S3 hasn't even been out that long, so from a PR standpoint perhaps they may, at worst, go from launch date or availability date in the US and provide coverage from that date? Too much 'what if' though, so prefer if someone knows definitively before I gamble on this being how they'd handle it.

To be honest, if it was $300 I wouldn't care., but at a cost of $600 I'm reluctant to take the gamble. I guess worse case I could send it back to the states to process any issues but would rather not incur those expenses should that present.

I've thought about buying a non iPhone phone in the USA myself. The warranty and possible hassles are a big concern. In addition, buying an unlocked non Google phone presents it's own challenges in terms of updating the firmware. As I understand it, based on my Galaxy 1, you need to visit your mobile carrier's website to update the firmware as it is or was at the time carrier specific. Personally, I don't think it's worth the potential hassle. Besides, I'm not impressed with Samsung's customer service. In fact, I may buy a third party warranty when I decide to get the Note 2.
