    Data roaming for android ???

Hello, guys, I'm going to the US soon, and
I'm wondering how safe is to leave the mobile data enabled on my Android phone (2.3.6), in view of possible data roaming charges?

    I do have "Settings/Battery & Data manager/Data Delivery/Data Roaming"
    setting disabled (grayed-out mark).

Is this enough to ensure that the cellphone is NOT going to use any mobile data, while roaming in the US?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I did search but I have not found any clear answer so far...

Much cheaper to use a prepay SIM card
$2 to $3 a day gives unlimited use

The options to not use data while roaming are only as good as the phone
Many will behave, but I have also seen people who have data disabled still end up with hundreds of dollars in charges
It is sad I need to state the obvious but some people just don't get it. Any posts I make are my own OPINIONS and in no way represent the views of my employer

I once had a Motorola phone for a couple of monthes whenever I connected to a cell network mobile data would turn on even though it was disabled. Cellular data was on though

    Thank you for the hints!

What US carrier u're talking about ( for the prepaid SIM)?

I have MOTO XT860 from Bell. It is HSPA/GSM only as I understand. What US carriers are compatible with it, if you happen to know?

Yes, but this is for "homemade" data, not roaming?

all I worry about is that the phone does not accidentally connect to the internet while roaming...

    @OP.

One question do you have a Canadian Data Add on? Remember if you don't have a Data Add On, Bells Pay per use Data Charge is $51.20 MB on there own network & while you are Roaming. Yes you read it Right its $51.20 a MB not a Gig. So be very careful if you don't have a Domestic Data Add on.

yes, sure I have domestic data, but roaming data charges would occur no matter what, even if I have domestic data, right?

^ Yes they will but they are less then $51.20 MB if you have a Domestic Data Package. It varies depending on your domestic data plan & where you are going. For example US ranges between $3 or so a MB to $6-$9 a MB.

Thanks! Good to know I'm not gonna pay 50000$ per GB
I'm hesitating now between getting an US roaming bundle from Bell which is a bit cheaper than the one u mention, and
getting a SIM from a US carrier... In the latter case I won't be able to answer my calls, though?...

Hmmm.. Why the hell f***ng Bell cannot provide a decent roaming plan in the US?

Thanks! Interesting. on the first sight, it looks more expensive than e.g. T-mobile
($100 a month instead of $50 for unlimited data/text/talk), but maybe it saves some hassle.

I used Roam mobility earlier this year when I was in the US for a week and although more expensive than going with the T-Mobile plans it did give me unlimited calling back to Canada without the need to configure something like Google Voice.
