esteem screen replacement

my daughter dropped her esteem and cracked the screen.my question is can the glass be replaced by itself?
the reason i ask is when i look up parts i find 2 different things:
1)LG Esteem Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement

2)LG Esteem LCD Screen Replacement

is there a difference? she can still use the touch pad and still see the screen,it's the glass that's cracked and i can get a straight answer from the repair shops here in south florida.thanks in advance

The LCD and Digitizer are 2 separate pieces. LCD is the actual screen where the digitizer is the glass overlay that allows the touch functionality. If you see a crack yet the screen seems to be showing a display, then it's your digitizer that is broken.

With that being said, I HIGHLY recommend you buy them as a set as they are usually hard to separate and you either end up breaking one of the 2 or you have lots of issues putting them back together. Trust me, I've done enough myself to know better. Good luck and make sure you take your time taking it apart.

Quick question on that. Are you saying the actual glass that you touch is the digitizer? Just curious because my daughter dropped her Acer tablet and i am I the same situation where the glass is cracked but the screen and touch still works. Looking for the replacement parts i find both the digitizer and the LCD. can't seem to find a shop that will fix it though.

Your daughter be dropping them expensive toyz like they hot alot eh? just a word of advice next phone that u purchase for her if they ask if u want the metro guard insurance TAKE IT!! lol

I was under the impression you could re buy a phone at the same price every day from Metro. Is that incorrect?

With that being said, why are digitizers easier to replace on some phones (i.e iphone 3g/3gs) and difficult to replace on others? i.e LG Esteem , HTC Evo? Is there something special that must connect between the 2 besides the adhesive?

Just like different car models have different prices on their parts different phones have different prices for their parts, thats all i could speculate on.

well we decided it was the same price to fix it as it was to turn it in and use the insurance,
so the insurance is sending a new one (refirb) i just hope we don't run into the card
problem again.it's due here on thursday i'll keep you informed.and thanks for the replys

no they now send the new one w/ the card and then you send the old one back.
we shall see how smooth it goes.

at this point it would'nt shock me.i was surprised when i started looking around for the part
at how hard the parts are to find.one repair center here in west palm explained that the phone
is made a little different for metro then for sprint,there sames to be a different cable or plug
in for each phone and one won't fit the other.he said there is a "cut corner on the one for sprint
and not for metro.so he said when ordering make sure it's the correct one for your model #.
he had several customers order the parts on line only to find out it was not the right part.and
as we know you can wait weeks depending on where you order from.and he also said alot of these
screens are on back order.just a word of caution as i said i could not find one shop that had the
parts in stock.

my daughter got her replacement phone from the insurance company and in less then
24 hours and everything went off without a problem and the 4g card came with it.
thanks for the help.i did buy her the hard case that fits the extented battery and hope
it works when she drops it again.
