This is the kind of stuff I was looking for. I start training this Saturday. Were the three phones you sold walk ins or appointments? Also do the quotas seem reasonable?

Sorry for the delay in answering -

Tripper11: that will depend on the phones sold, number of splits, and whether the sale was a new activation or upgrade (and the type of upgrade). In the case that day, I made less because of these variables. I really shouldn't go into the details in a public forum because of confidentiality issues.

Csrep: Those three were walkins but my intention is to move to mainly referral and appointment business. In my first month, I had two appointment sales and almost 20 in my pipeline. As for quotas, I still don't understand the system well enough to comment.
Joe: "You bought them at $2.00 each and you're selling them at $1.50 each. How do you expect to make a profit?"

    Jim: "Volume."

    Past phones - Panasonic: hard shell transportable (1986); NEC: P300; Oki: 830, 900; Moto: MicroTac, StarTac 7897, V3xx, V9; At&t: Tilt; Nokia: 2160, 3100, 3360, 5120, 5160, 5165, 6120, 6161, 6230b; Ericsson (not Sony-Ericsson): A1228D, T18D; and probably a few more that I forgot.

When you say 20 in the pipeline does that mean 20 people you already knew that are planning to buy from you?.... or just walks in you sold to that you are assuming will set up an appointment with you next time?

I can't see appointments bringing that much business unless you're ruthless to get them. I've never done any appointment type business. Our customers just come see us when they need us. Once you get a line from someone it may be 20 months before you see them or before they need you again.

First day was all about getting familiar with the systems which are gonna take me a while to get the hang of the different terminology they use. I did inventory all by myself the first day which took a while. I guess it's like hazing for the new guy lol.

I was in training so I can't make commission until I get hired on officially but if I wouldn't have been in training I would have made around 180-200 dollars that day based on the share... which my trainer felt was a slow day for the store. So that's encouraging.

Btw I already have a few people who are waiting for me to finish training so they can come upgrade or start a new line directly from me. I'll have to set them up as an appointment, but I'll get to keep all of the commission from those.

The people I worked with seemed pretty cool and the day seemed to go by pretty fast but it could just be because everything was so new to me. Everybody I talked to said they we're happy to be there and made pretty good money. Most between 40k-55k. I also liked that they provide desks and computers in store for each of their sales reps so I didn't have to be on my feet 24/7 like I figured I would be coming in.

Overall a good first day and what I was hoping for but I'll try to keep updating my impressions as I go foward.

How's the training coming? Are you being paid during this training?

My next day isn't until wed and I am just shadowing and learning systems the first week. The second week they are shipping me off for training in a classroom setting for a full week. It just pays $10 an hour while training, which should last 3-4 weeeks.
