Your Samsung tablet cost you an extra $100 because of these types of lawsuits. Same goes for Apple.
Who is actually winning?
No doubt in my mind Samsung uses the same amount of sweatshops and child labor.
Actually, the amounts they spend on lawsuits are probably pretty negligible in the over all finances of both companies.

If that was actually true, LG would have sued (rather than just threaten).
The actual fact is that both models were only announced within a few weeks of each other, with the LG being first to show. But the LG was so early into development that at the time the iPhone was announced and demonstrated LG hadn't even released what the specs would be for their device. Given that the iPhone was clearly designed around a larger (at the time) fully multitouch display and took years to develop, it is impossible and unreasonable to think that they modified their final product in the couple of weeks from LG's device being shown and Apple giving a full demo of theirs.
If I recall the timeline correctly, LG announced theirs mid dec 2006 and the first public pics were shown on engadget a couple days later. Apple announced and demonstrated a fully working iPhone very early in January 2007, literally 3 or 4 weeks from LG's announcement and early pics. I guess if Apple really was magically they might have had some wizards that were able to wave their wands and presto they completely reworked what they had been working on as their very first attempt at a phone and completely copied the LG design. Back in the real world, Apple and LG were both working, concurrently, on similar designs. Meanwhile the first Samsung galaxy tab was introduced in Sept 2010, while the iPad was announced in Jan 2010, giving Samsung at least 7 months to work on their device after the iPad was known.
Wrong. Because of both parties it's the lawyers who win and the customers who lose. They are both slinging lawsuits back and forth constantly.
wrong. because of apple, it's the lawyers who win and the customers who lose. apple are thee instigators of these patent wars because they can't compete on merit. in the vast majority of cases it's samsung, motorola, et al are merely countersuiing to defend themselves. apple are the aggressors, and that's the crux of the matter
if you can't realise that then you haven't been paying attention.
Whatever you have to tell yourself to help you sleep at night.
People talk of "apple fanboyism". I guess "Samsung fanboyism" exists too...
A couple of quick google searches lead me to believe that there's a lot of "tit for tat" going on, looks like Samsung is just as guilty as Apple. As for "who sued who first" that eventually becomes irrelevant.
I could be wrong though, the other end of it is I don't really care. Samsung makes nice phones and tablets and I don't hate Samsung. So no love lost here.
Well, that isn't really true. The whole industry is suing each other. I don't own an Apple product (besides an old 3Gs in a drawer), but you are not looking at this objectively.
Oct 22, 2009: Nokia sues Apple over 10 patents.
Dec 11, 2009: Apple countersues Nokia over 13 patents.

That's just delusional or an intentional misstating of the facts.
This stuff is not new. It did not start with Apple.
I am close friends with attorneys who worked the Xerox/Palm case. I know way too much about that one.
But yeah, the smartphone wars now are nothing new. In the early 90s the same thing happening with MSFT and Intel. people thought their patents were going to destroy all personal computing. that sure didn't happen. In fact, if you go far enough back, there was a thought that patents would kill off the typewriter.

Yup. Been there. I don't want to say too much though. You know.

Are you sure? Because I was looking for a reason to hate Apple and this has been a reason I've been giving people. If you tell me it isn't true I may have to dream up a new excuse.
