    Unlimited Data

I have an unlocked international GS3. Would the $10/Mo Non-smartphone unlimited data plan work on this phone? Also will trying the iphone 2G unlimited data loop hole thing work today? any other way to possibly get unlimited data?

    Thanks!

Yes, up until AT&T figures out what you are doing. Then AT&T will switch you to a smartphone plan with caps. Should take just a few months before they figure out that you have a phone on a plan they won't continue to serve.

If you all ready have an unlimited iPhone plan, just swap the SIMs and set the correct APN. No way to get that from AT&T now if you don't all ready have it.

Only other way to legitimately get unlimited data is to get a plan from Sprint with another CDMA phone.

I don't believe that AT&T has the IMEIs to the international GS3 but I could be wrong. You could always give it a shot and see how it works.

They fixed the iPhone 2g loophole a while ago, it was good while it lasted.

No way to get unlimited data today, sorry.

All AT&T needs to know from an IMEI is that the first six digits represent the model and origin of the phone. The rest is a serial number identifying an individual phone.

All IMEI's are contained in the the IMEI Database controlled by the GSM Association (GSMA).

The GSMA provides access to the IMEI DB to its members, the mobile network operators across the world, and to qualified industry parties (i.e. manufacturers of device management products). The network operators use the information in the IMEI DB to determine what types of devices are being used by their customers, and what features they support, so that they can offer and support the latest services to these customers through their networks.
Would be difficult to believe that AT&T would not make use of this database to "determine what types of devices are being used by their customers." There is andotical evidence of people using overseas smart phones on dumb phone plans. But they are rare. And a new phone like the Samsung. If your IMEI number starts with 358848, then its a Samsung S3.

Here's a very long thread at xdadevelopers discussing just this thing. Perhaps you can glean some good info from it out of all the noise.

Benefits of International Samsung Galaxy S3 for US (AT&T) users

Fine, let me rephrase my statement, AT&T may have the IMEIs at their disposal but they arent doing anything about it because it is a very small amount of users using the phone on the $10 plan.

Perfect example being the GNex. Been out for several months, AT&T is well aware of the phone and IMEIs but has chose not to do anything about it (yet).

Its really a gamble when using these types of phones with the $10 plan because one day it might work and the next day not.

    But you don't get LTE.

AT&T will do something about it if there are enough to care about. If there aren't, then they won't. Maybe they gave up considering that there aren't any LTE phones for it to work with.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

Up until this past May I was using a telus droid that uses the same 3G bands as AT&T. And while it did cut in and out of signal very rarely it did the trick at $10/month. Its a heck of a dinosaur phone now but using it was a charm and a cheap one at that

I recently did a transfer of liability and the unlimited data plan didn't stick. I called in and the representative opened a case to put it back on. I had a feeling that unlimited wouldn't stick, but since she made an effort to have it put back onto the account do you guys think I have a good chance of getting it?
