Does T-Mobile charge taxes on prepaid plans?

Hi all,

My $30 100 minutes 5GB/4G account comes due in a few days and I just added $30 credit via Callingmart.

On the due date... will T-Mobile deduct $30 or add some taxes to that?

Nope, it should only be $30. The only way it charges taxes is if you add the $30 directly to T-Mobile.
This month I used Callingmart for the first time while they had their promotion (Paid $28.50 for the $30 plan) I added the top up code to my account, it verified and restarted with no problem and no taxes charged.

Thanks. The current Callingmart T-Mobile promotion ended yesterday, but I still got it for $28.80 with the coupon that never expires... so no complaints.

I went the "direct to phone" route and the minutes were added within 30 seconds or so after hitting the Paypal button.

I've used Callingmart for years with various prepaid providers. They are good folks.

Taxes are collected (not charged, no one charges tax but the gov't, businesses merely collect tax on behalf of the gov't) when you buy the minutes directly from T-Mo's web site and, around here, when you buy T-Mo cards off the shelf at retail outlets. But Callingmart for whatever reason does not collect sales tax, so go figure.

So, even taking into account the grocery store gift card fuel discount which is pretty good, it's cheaper for me to buy that $30 card from callingmart than from the grocery store.

It's a relatively new feature on callingmart.com. You can add the money directly just by entering your phone number.

Go the Callingmart's "Wireless Refills" page and they call it "RTR - Auto Load To Phone".

Just make sure you enter your T-Mobile phone number without typos. I'm not sure what would happen if an incorrect number was entered.

It works very well. The credit showed in my account within 30 seconds of purchasing it.

I've not tried callingmart yet, perhaps next month. I've used Walmart. I live in a state that collects sales tax, but given that the pin code is e-mailed I stipulate my mailing address as California ( a state that does not collect sales tax ). I pay the face value of the card; not taxes or excise fees.

I think I get charged a minor E911 tax and local sales tax for here but it come out to 32 something.

So if I pick up a $60 top up type card at Target I will not pay tax, however if I attach my credit card to so its billed each month then I get charged tax?

Target will also charge you sales tax. You pay sales tax when buying a refill card from a retail store or from refilling directly to T-Mobile via credit card.

The ways to avoid tax are websites like callingmart.com or buying on eBay. I've done both with no problems. On average I've managed to pay about $26-$27 a month for my $30 plan. I just keep my eye out for deals/specials and add 'em when I see' em.

It depends on the tax laws for your state. My state does not charge sales taxes on refills, whether I buy them over the phone or in the store.

its just like any normal product (but not like postpaid cellular). Prepaid is a packaged deal and all fees, etc are included in the price, except of course local sales tax (if there is any).

a seller must charge (actually, collect for the state) local sales tax (if any), if the sale is being made where that seller has a "nexus" (some sort of physical presence in that state, like a store, a branch location, etc). Otherwise, the seller has no obligation to collect sales taxes on the state's behalf. Tmobile has nexuses in all 50 states, so it must collect sales taxes. Callingmart does not.

I just refilled my prepaid account with $100.00 and T-Mobile added $6.50 to my credit card. They never did it before.
