    Galaxy Music

New to the smartphone thing....I have several apple ipods....want to put that music on my phone and use playlists. What r u guys using for apps ? There is 3 music related apps loaded from the factory and maybe one of those is good ? No problem paying for a great app if there is better.

Google Play Music, free, plus it utilizes "cloud" storage and you can store local copies

To use it, you have to upload music from your computer Google Play, which is really simple. Go to music.google.com, download their Music Manager program, install it, then when it asks you to select folders to upload, select your My Music or iTunes or whatever folder, and it'll upload everything in there (may take a while, but it's worth it). Then using the Play Music app on your phone, it'll show all your songs (though it will stream them unless you long press (hold down on) an artist/album and select "Make available offline".

Definatley want them onboard vs streaming. Just bought a 64 GB card for additional storage so I would have plenty of room for music and photos. An extra 64GB .....DID I just say that ? Crazy numbers....

Great phone BTW. Having fun with it !

I'd recommend the Amazon MP3 app as well. The added advantage it has over the Google Music app is that it has all of the music purchasing capabilities and all of the crazy deals that Amazon is always throwing at you. They're constantly giving away $2 and $3 credits for doing small things like downloading free apps from the Amazon App Store.

Edit: For on-device music I use Winamp, but many people recommend Poweramp.

+1 for Poweramp...has a ton of features, supports many different formats, and does gapless playback.

I use iSyncr for PC. It works fairly well with a few glitches once in a while. I believe it's $2.99 in the Play Store.

Any apps that manage the different volume levels of the music when plugged in better than that damn iTunes does ?

Cant believe Apple cant find a way to level different recordings but they sure do control every other thing. ;(

I have a question regarding google music. I'm in the process right now of uploading my itunes music library to this service. Believe it or not but it has been uploading for a couple of DAYS now! I think it says I have like 7000 songs total to upload. I think around 30 gigs worth. Anyway, I'm patiently waiting for it to get done. Here's my question... Can I use my use my google music account on my phone as well as my wifes phone simultaneously? I just don't want to have to go thru several days of uploading again of all the same music so she can have her own account. Appreciate any info.

I believe you should be able to sign into your account on both devices.

Something to keep in mind with Google Music, unless it's changed since beta, when it streams the songs back it streams them at full size, so a 8mb MP3 will cost you 8mb of your data plan to listen to the song. Programs like Pandora stream a lower bitrate so it uses much less data. I sent an email to Google during the beta and they said the didn't have any plans to change the way the streaming worked, so that would mean it would take less songs than Pandora before you max out your data plan.

With the offline function, be sure you are on wireless before you have it sync it, otherwise 7000 songs will definitely burn up your 5gb really quick.

I really do like Google music, but that one thing alone keeps me from using it as my primary music player on my phone.

I just have a playlist of the couple hundred songs I'll generally want to listen to downloaded to my phone. If I want to stream another song or two it's not going to take that much data.
It's extremely easy to make a playlist available offline. Just go tap the little right triangle at the end of the song or playlist you want, and select "Keep on device." By default it is set to only download to the device over wifi, so be sure you are on a network when you do it.

This is pretty much what I'm planning on doing. Just keeping my most listened to songs on the phone and changing them up when I'm on wi-fi from time to time. It will be nice however to have the option to listen anything I own when I'm out and about.
