    CelFi

I have looked for another thread on the same subject, but couldn't find one.
Just thought I'd tell you of my experience with the CelFi unit.
In Kitchener, I had excellent signal strength, throughout my condo unit (cell site nearby).
After our move to Welland, I found the signal not nearly as strong - particularly when I moved from the window deeper into the living unit.
I decided to try the CelFi system ( http://cel-fi.com/ ) - the CelFi-RS1 unit. It is a bit pricy, but after using it for a day or so, I can only say it does a great job, even though it would probably do even better in larger surroundings, such as a normal apartment or a house.
Because I live in a small unit, I can not place the two units far enough apart for optimum performance, but even at that I get a full 5 bars everywhere in my suite.

This information provided for those among us who might be interested.

    Cheers!

I may not fully understand how this thing works, but my guess is that if you have one of these turned on, you're always going to have full bars near it, regardless of the strength of it's signal from WIND. I think the main benefit is that as long as it can stay connected to WIND, your device(s) will always stay connected, and you will use less battery because there is a strong signal for you.

But it isn't going to give you a true "5 bar" experience, because if there's no signal to begin with, it can't magically create one for you.

I don't either, but on their web site is a simplified graphic presentation on what it does, and how.

You're absolutely correct - their web site states that you MUST have at least one bar of signal - more is better.
I guess it then regenerates that signal (which as I seem to remember from my working days in the telephone industry) is totally different from amplifying a signal)

Johnn would the cost of these units not eat up the saving you are having with Wind?

Perhaps - yes. Then again - maybe not, by the time you consider buying another phone, or selling your soul for two or three years, letting go of the HMP etc.
Also: not everybody considers money only - some people consider several other things.
WIND has treated me well for two and a half years, and I have no reason to switch to another WSP.
Moreover, just to give you one other good reason: In my suite, I get a WIND signal (which I improved with the CelFi system), but my granddaughter with her Telus phone had dead air only.

    Answer your question?

I get your point but for me no matter how well I am treated if the service is lacking I will not be there much longer. I would think your handset would work on the big 3 would it not, and you do not need to get on a contract to have good reliable service. I agree to many it is not about money it is about having a handset that works.
In the end it is what works for you.

I guess, RJ, it all depends on one's outlook about about WIND.
I look for reasons to keep on enjoying WIND's service and good rates. And I don't have to look far.
OTOH, you (as I see it) look for reasons why one should not stay with WIND.
Why you would feel that way, I don't know.
Perhaps, you just have a mad on for WIND.
Perhaps, there are tangible benefits for you to keep posting these views.
Perhaps, you just have a negative outlook on life in general.
Perhaps, there's another reason I haven't thought off.

Whatever it is: Stop to smell the roses! You live longer that way!

    Cheers!

Johnn you know I was one of the very first on wind and the constant issues are what soured the milk for me. To be fair Johnn I look for reasons to stay with wind. To be fair I need the coverage, not the data, not the empty promises, just the coverage.

I had been told so many times that things were better and sadly they were not up to standard. I think I am to blame in the end, I really thought they would keep their word. No contracts, no hiding behind fine print, fair and open, I remember wind telling us all how wind was going to be the polar opposite of the big 3. I get a chuckle when I think back how tony made fun of rogers customer service. Oh if he could have just looked into the future. Wind is great for many I agree. But for some it was a nightmare. But that is enough about that. Short and sweet Wind is good for some not so good for others.

Any wind employees on here able to tell me what the policy is on found handsets? The local shop wanted nothing to do with a found handset. ( I usually give them my card, the sim and have them track down the owner. Sim was clean, also phone is password locked. )

Anyway: Back to the original intent of this thread:

I sure like the CelFi system, and if I can answer any of your questions about it, I gladly will!

Has anyone used a car-mounted version of something like this?

I'm thinking about areas of bad coverage, like the 401 between Milton and KW, or maybe that area on the Gardiner people seem to complain about (I still haven't noticed any problems there). If a larger antenna and more powerful receiver could amplify the signal a little bit, it may make road trips through "covered areas" a lot more tolerable.

I did some quick Googling, and everything seemed a little pricey, but I was just curious if anyone had tried anything.

If I thought so, would I have bought it?

Some people spend that kind of money on just a handset - why shouldn't I spend it on a feature I find important?

Sorry the Wind subscriber that said this product worked treat was " mistaken " looks like you have to shell out 600+ $ to get signal.
