Before purchasing that, I would ensure that Verizon, or whomever you decide to go with will activate that phone.

I am interested in getting some suggestions for a carrier and a phone that works in the most rural areas of the United States. My family and I like to camp and ATV and both activities get us to some very rural area. So far I am focusing on this http://powerfulsignal.com/m800-motorola-bag-phone.aspx on the Verizon network, or possibly an MVNO of Verizon. Anyway, is this a good choice or is there something else that I ought to be considering. The main area is north of ZIP 54830.

Indeed, I'm trying to buy one of those on eBay and 95% of the m800s are alltel which you'll never get VZW to activate.
Thank you for the information on that. I will go post on the Page Plus Cellular sub-forum and see if anybody there has tried one of these on PPC.
Luckily PPC doesn't care and many people activate alltel devices.
Thank you very much for the reply. That is what I was hoping for. I also noticed that is still lists AMPS in the specifications. I assume that all AMPS coverage has disappeared from the US, but is it posible that there is still an AMPS site or two left?
