^ man, that sucks. also ridiculous in terms of business sense. surely they must notice that jerks like us are staring to bail, yeah?

i'll give Fido to next Friday, three days after Koodo unleashes their promo. if they remain silent in the face of all this competition, i guess i shouldn't be surprised.

For what it's worth, I spoke with retentions today specifically quoting the Koodo plan, and this is what they offered me:

    200 min
    5pm E/W
Unlimited text / image & video (not 100% sure if this included US, I think it did.)
    Unlimited Canada long distance
    Unlimited incoming
    Call forwarding, CID, Visual VM
    6GB data
$71. It would have been $66 if I took the regular voice mail & removed the unlimited forwarding.

I'm still on the fence whether I should jump or not. I'm leaning more towards yes (because the Rogers / Fido reception at my office is nonexistent and I'd like to switch to an LTE network), but I guess we'll see come Tuesday if the Koodo stuff holds true, or if I overcome my aversion to Bell.

For my needs the Bell plan is better (and it helps that WorldIRC is here helping out as well) but I had some really, really nasty billing issues with Bell (twice!) and swore I'd never go back. Still pondering...

It's really amazing how fired up customers will get when the think they are getting a good value. These $60/6GB plans have people talking and thinking about signing up and changing providers. The last time I recall this level of excitement over plans from the big 3 was when Fido and Rogers did their $35 and $50 unlimited retentions plans. Imagine how much attention one of them would get with a plan that was clearly vastly superior to the others. It would mean taking a risk and yes the others would move to compensate, but first mover has the advantage.

It is puzzling that Fido, formerly known as the leader for value, is so silent. They have an opening here, now that everyone else has shown their hands, to blow everyone away with some amazing plan. They'd get all the press and all the attention and the others would be seen as followers if they tried to beat them. That initial attention could be invaluable. I wonder if they are listening at all.
Unlocked Pentaband iPhone 5 (AWS), unlocked iPhone 4
Unlimited airtime, Unlimited CAN/US long distance, Unlimited SMS to CAN/US wireless numbers
2500 Call Forwarding minutes to CAN/US numbers
    CiD, 6GB
Google Voice for visual voice mail with message transcription, conditional greetings, unlimited messages (vs 35 message cap), remote retrieval from any PC or phone, no auto-purge after 10 days and most importantly no $7-$8 charge.
    $53

For what its worth; they've gotten MUCH better in that and have been putting in a commendable amount of effort to correct that which went wrong long ago The billing system is rock solid nowadays anyways.

i'm curious if the above offer is based on credits to your account?

the issue is that credits come and go -- at their discretion. with my last offer, i was told there was no way i was going to get the credits i had before, and was offered a plan with less but cost more. so why would anyone in their right mind stay?

Call Fido. Tell them why you want to leave. Let them make a decision to help you or not.

^Koodo's plan is $11 cheaper, and has Unlimited Incoming, and CDN LD. How can Fido compete with that with that offering?

I think he mentioned also having unlimited CDN LD. So there must be a $10 credit there.
    Regardless, $71 vs $60? It's a no brainer.
Seems like the dog is on a tight leash.

I don't think i can get a "retention" plan from Fido because i suscribe to a plan 2 weeks ago (2 iphone cost me 120$ + tax per month).

Because Rogers will have you believe that being a premium client of theirs is the way to be!
