You can't port within the same carrier. Maybe for the purposes of the number portability system, your "Family Mobile" number is being identified as a T-Mobile number and therefore is ineligible for porting to T-Mobile?

I have attempted to port my phone number
from Family Mobile ( owned by Tmobile ) to
Tmobile for 3 days . I have made 6 phone calls
and talked with so many reps I have lost count .
Two seprate porting attempts failed. The third
attempt pulled my number from Family Mobile
but it did not transfer to my phone . Callers to
my old number hear a message that my
number is not in service.
The porting department seems to be fully
outsourced overseas. Since I am porting to a
monthly prepaid account they dump on to prepaid customer service which is completely
incompetent . They are unfailingly polite but
have no idea about porting.
I have been promised a returned call by 3
different prepaid customer service reps but
never received a returned call . I use my phone
for business and have had my number for a
long time.
I would be very grateful if someone could tell
me how to reach anyone at TMO with the
authority to correct my porting problem . As
soon as regular customer service learns I am a
prepaid customer they transfer me to prepaid
customer service which is no help at all .
Thank you.

The porting department calls it a number transfer. I use the word porting because prepaid customer service uses the word porting. They are the ones I am always transferred to.
that may be the problem: if t-mo can internally *transfer* the number from T-Mo owned Family Mobile, that's one thing.
But if someone else insists on porting the number, that's another thing.
It's more than just a word; "porting" means something very, very specific. Mobile number portability is carrier independent and is a very specific routine. You can't use the words "transfer" and "porting" interchangeably. I think someone at t-mo is getting confused.
After talking with them again I think they did attempt to port my number. They insist everything looks fine on their end and it must be a problem with my phone ( a Samsung Galaxy S 4g ). I know my phone is not the issue because when my phone is off with the battery out callers to my old number still get a recording that my number is not in service. At this point I just want to know how I can get my number back. Does any one know who I can contact at TMO with the authority to correct this problem?
Thank you
