Bell XT860 unlocking for the USA

Hello Folks.
Does anyone have experience of unlocking Bell's Motorola XT860 and making it work with a US carrier?

I found this thread elsewhere, where it says the phone won't get 3G on T-Mobile, which is disappointing:

Otherwise (sorry for dumb question) is unlocking gonna alter in any way the functionality of the phone
on the native Bell network? I.e. will I still have same speed etc...?

If you purchase an unlock code through an unlocking service your warranty will be fine and there should be nothing different with the way the phone functions.

No 3G on T-Mobile's network was disappointing however for simple GPS and web searches I found the 2G EDGE data was better than nothing.
