Yes and they will change your data plan to a smartphone one (you should receive a text shortly after inserting your sim). Don't forget the lumia uses a micro sim so you will need a new one (especially if you want 4G let).

I know the Lumia 900 was a subsidized phone by AT&T. If I buy a phone (say through ebay) and use my current SIM, will they find out?
The reason...I currently have an old bundle package for unlimited text & data. I have an n8 with a cracked screen and the e7 I purchased turned into a big fiasco so I probably will not be getting that phone due to problems with the party I purchased through. I see the Lumias go for about 300-350 on ebay which i would be willing to pay.
Thanks for any assistance.

oh man! Is the case still the same if I purchase an unlocked Lumia?
I've had smart phones for years with AT&T and I've never had any problems with them bumping me into another data plan (with E70, E75, N8) but my previous phones were never subsidized by AT&T.
My concern is particularly with the Lumia 900 since the carrier actually offers this device. I guess that's essentially what I'm trying to figure out...if it's easier for them to bump me out of my plan simply because I'm using this device in particular (independently of actual data usage, i'm not a huge data consumer).
If it is, i'm going to skip the Lumia for now and either go with an 808 pure view or maybe try a US version of the e7.
Simple answer. Yes. The Lumia 900 is exclusive to AT&T. To see how they treat smartphones on non-smartphone plans see the sticky on how the handle the iPhone 3G.
Correction. Lumia 900 was exclusive to AT&T. It has been available in Canada and Europe weeks after its release.
OP could try to get a non LTE Lumia 900 unlocked (the hspa plus model). But that would be risky since AT&T sells Lumia 900 it may and probably recognize it has smartphone and charge op the smartphone data plan rather than. The feature phone data plan.
just dont do it.. afaik any (GSM) Windows 7 phone out, AT&T has had some sort of variation of it, and i'm assuming you have MEdia Works..
That plan is just too good to risk it on.. You'd be better off just getting some no-name android phone and using it, but that's just my opinion.
Honestly, if you can find a T-Mobile HTC Amaze and Unlock it, that might work, and it's a great device that has both T-Mobile and AT&T's HSPA frequencies.
Also the Lumia 710 might work, but i'm not too sure if AT&T carried that model.

dang, thanks all for the input...i guess we won't know until someone actually tries it. At this point I may get a US e7 (originally ordered an orange e7 from asia...what a fiasco) or maybe bite the bullet and go with the 808 pureview....but I duno, I think I'm ready to phase out of symbian but stick with Nokia...not sure if I want to give up my data plan for it tho.
