    I'm confused, sorry.

When I ported over from a ST phone to the BYOP plan, they only asked for the ST sim associated number..they never once asked anything about the phone itself. How would they or ATT have a way of knowing whether the phone I was using was lost, stolen, or anything?

The IMEI is reported to the network each time you connect. If the carrier relied only upon the subscriber to identify his device, everyone would be using a basic phone.

The half way official thing I found was from the Verges article on this.

in post 13 above you must have been one of the people that did not believe in my little poll.

it took me about 25 seconds to find this article on the fcc website.

i am sure there is more.

didn't you just bought a phone off ebay? is that why you don't want this to be true? this is real and we need to figure out how to do it...and this can occur weeks after the sale.

I am not challenging what you are saying at all.

My point was we hear one piece of information and we start running to all the crazy extremes of what this might mean.

    I didn't see your poll.

And when I was talking about something official I meant something written in blue and orange from AT&T concerning the matter, because we know AT&T doesn't particularly care what the government thinks e.g. T-Mobile takeover.
