    How do long-distance addons work?

    Paying way too much in long distance charges lately, lol. somewhere around 70-150 minutes/month at 0.40$ each

    I have student 55, which a rep told me has 200 daytime minutes. because of 6pm evenings/weekends, telus-telus LD and my10, i only use about 50 or so of those daytime minutes a month.

    I'm trying to decide between the Package 25 which has VM10, Caller ID, and converts daytime minutes to LD minutes. Now the rep told me that if i have this package enabled, and I make a long distance call to a non-telus, non MY10 number during " 6pm Local Nights & Weekends", I won't be docked minutes and won't be charged.

    Does anyone know whether this is the same case if I just add a Nationwide 10 package?

    I already pay 8$/month for Caller ID, so Package 25 is only a 17$ increase to get about ~150 LD minutes and VM10. But I dont need VM10, so its really the evenings/weekends perk thats the deciding factor. Any ideas?

    Nationwide 10 simply covers the LD portion of 100 airtime minutes (be they daytime 'bucket' minutes, or evening 'free' minutes). Nationwide 20 (and Package 25) would make all of your available minutes Canada-wide, so you could talk as long as you wanted after 6pm.

    Given your spending on LD right now, adding package 25 would end up saving you ~$11-43/mo. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

    Nationwide MY10 sounds like a better fit, assuming you call / receive calls from the same 10 numbers.

    I thought Student 55 favorites were nationwide, and that OP's issue is excessive LD calls to non-Telus non-Fave #s. mcrae44, can you pls. clarify?

    Yep, thats the case.

    So if i went with nationwide 10, i'd have 200 daytime minutes, and 100 long distance minutes, period

    Nationwide 20 200 daytime minutes, 200 long distance minutes, that won't be used up past 6pm

    Package 25 200 anytime minutes, that wont be used up past 6pm

    Is that right? I think I'm leaning towards nationwide 20 in that case.

    Sort of.. Long distance minutes aren't really separate from anytime. For example, let's say you called a long distance number during the day for 5 minutes, that would be 5 daytime minutes used AND 5 long distance minutes used. And for example, in the evening when you call a long distance number, even though you have ul e/w, if you talk for 50 minutes, you will use 50 long distance minutes.

    Long Distance features cover the long distance portion of a call; airtime is a separate charge. During the day airtime comes from your bucket, during the E&W hours airtime is effectively free. Nationwide 10 will eliminate 100 minutes worth of LD charges, whether that airtime comes from your daytime bucket, free E&W coverage, or daytime overage. Nationwide 20 & Package 25 both cover any Canadian LD you may incur, meaning you could make up to 200 daytime LD calls and 'unlimited' E&W LD calls without paying a cent more.
