as the title says I just got that phone from docomo and was wondering a few things
first off is there a way to root it and/or put ics on it?
also I find that IMO and Skype among others won't work in the background and will close out if I don't have them always open in the multitasking menu, is there a way to fix this (I ticked the correct boxes in the apps to no avail)
incoming emails also don't show up in the notification area
lastly since the phone doesn't have all that much internal space my ability to install and run a bunch of apps is limited by space
I have a 4gig sd card in there but when I download apps they are installed to the internal memory with the SD card used as a sub device that is used to hold the apps temporary files or cache
is three a way to tell the phone to bypass the internal memory and instead install stuff only to the SD card?
this ie my first smartphone so I'm a bit lost lol
ideas on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated!

No.
If an application is open it will show in the multitasking menu (running apps). If you close it from there, of course it will exit.
Maybe a bug with the mail app you are using. If that's Gmail you're talking about, then maybe Panasonic did something to the notifications area - I thought incoming mail was always shown there regardless of phone brand.
Yes, it is.
Settings > Applications > Preferred Install Location > Removable SD card.
Then, from Settings > Applications > Manage applications > [view particular app] Move to microSD
We've all been there. Just search a lot and experiment a lot, then ask questions.

hey so I did some research and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1278349
i downloaded/installed all the necessary stuff but when I plug the phone into the computer with USB debug mode enabled it doesnt prompt for a driver installation
when I go into device manager it shows me phone "FOMA P01D" sitting there without a driver. If I try and manually update the drivers it doesnt recognise the ones that I got from the android sdk
any ideas as to what im doing wrong?
