I recently switched back to Virgin Mobile , only to find that the phone I chose, the HTC EVO V, has been plagued with issues. The biggest of the problems is an error message about Radio Interface Resource Shortage, which pretty much blocks the phone from any voice/text activity until you do a ##CLEAR# and basically re-activate the phone through VM. A lot of people have contacted VM about the issue but they seem to be oblivious to the problem, either that or they are blatantly ignoring it.
I did a bit of research and apparently this issue is very common among HTC handsets on VM and Sprint (not all models, but quite a few were mentioned), with the occasional note about it on other brand Android handsets as well, but I am not finding anything regarding anything similar (with or without the error message - just trying to find out if the behavior is being seen!) with the iPhone on either Sprint or VM.
If you're an iPhone user on Sprint or VM, can you please respond and let me know if you have seen or even heard of anything like this? I'm seriously considering shelling out the additional money if I can have more stability than I am seeing right now.
Thanks so much in advance!

Here's my experience: when I first activated my iPhone on VMUSA, everything worked great! I was getting even better reception and data speeds than I did on any other Android device I'd had with them before. Then, I needed to activate another phone on my account for a couple days and then reactivated the iPhone back on my account. Everything worked fine except for data. 2G and 3G data just didn't work. Got a "could not activate cellular data network" message on the iPhone. It took an hour on the phone (trying things that didn't work, like ##UPDATE#) until they finally "reset the towers" for my phone and had me restore my iPhone until data started working again. Everything has been great since!
I also referred a friend to VMUSA because of the iPhone. He's also having a problem: his texts don't work. Calling and data work fine, he just can't send texts (iMessages work because that's data, but no texting to other phones). He's called in once and after an hour they couldn't fix it and said they would call him back.
I'm sure that if you do have a problem, it's a matter of finding a rep who knows what they are doing. Of course, this means having enough time and patience to do this. If you call in, ask for "tier 3 technical support", who were the people who solved my data problem.
I have the iphone on VM, honestly I am glad I took the money and got it, the signal is better and my data speeds have actually been decent, which have not been using the optimus V or elite. I have not had any issues with the iphone other than bestbuy screwed up activation and I had to do it again myself. Text and data work fine and voice calls have been really clear, again was not the case on my other 2 phones. Service here in southern NH is not too bad, would want to make sure coverage where you plan on using it most is at least decent.

My opinions are mine, not yours, no one says you have to agree with them! =)
My wife's got a VM iPhone and it seems to be working fine for her (see below).

Maybe it's just be, but if you're doing crap like that you've got to expect some problems. Why did you "need" to activate another phone on the same account?

This is the one problem my wife had, too. The texting worked when the iPhone was originally activated on VM, but quit shortly thereafter (less than a day). Calling and data worked fine and the phone would receive texts just fine, but wouldn't send them. Even did a full system reset on the phone, and it still didn't work. They ended up having to set up a new account with a new number, and then everything worked fine. So it was something screwy in the account settings on VM's system, nothing wrong with the phone itself.

I had to activate an old phone on my account in order to process a replacement being shipped out. It was my previous phone that had broken, but it was still under the 1 year warranty so I wanted it fixed. This is nothing that VMUSA shouldn't be able to handle. It was just a phone swap like any other.
Hey guys - based on your feedback, I decided to swing by and return my Evo V for the iphone 4s .
So far so good - no problems, runs like a champ. The only problem I have now is wondering why I never gave the iphone a fair shake in the past - I was so sold on Android that I turned a blind eye to anything positive about the iphone.
Will post more if anything goes south, but so far it's going REALLY well!
Not to mention, no signal issues, no errors, no freezes, data speeds are twice that of what I was getting with the EVO.
Great to hear you're not having any problems! The iPhone is a great device, isn't it?
If you don't have any problems with the service now, I don't think you'll have any problems with it later on. It seems like problems only occur when swapping phones, and since you're good now, you're good!
It's definitely been a positive experience so far - and I'm kicking myself in the rear for not having given the iPhone a chance even back when I was on T-Mobile (sure, I couldn't get 3g speeds, but it still would have worked!).
It's definitely worth every penny - works 100% - no hiccups, burps, or otherwise.
And then the $5 off of the already low rates that VM offers - that's just icing on the cake!

Yeah, it cost a small fortune lol but I do like paying $30 a month for service, plus the last iphone that I had, I had for awhile, this phone should last me many years, so in the end it was not that bad. Also if you Jailbreak the phone it does so much more, I finally went for it just to use other apps.
